Default Media Card

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
Sorry if I'm asking this question in the wrong place but I'm very "green" with my b.b. I want to be able to watch videos on my bb pearl. It is brand new. Is it necessary for me to buy a media card, and if so, how big of one do I need. I notice there are sites like "videos4blackberry" which allow you to upload tv episodes which are downloaded onto your p.c. first. Is that something that is done by having a media card?

Welcome to the BBF.

You will need a Media Card. There is no way you would be able to much video on the device memory.

If you can, get at least a 2gb card, or 4 gb. You can get 8 if you like, but for cost, stick to the 2 or 4. You can get them locally, or look here for some good links and prices.

Wirelessly posted (RIM BlackBerry 8300 Curve: BlackBerry8300/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/122)

So the newer BlackBerry devices support microSDHC (high capacity) cards, including the larger 4 and 8GB varieties?

Interesting...

My 8 gig card is not fully recognized in my 8830 (verizon). I've read that the a "to be released" os upgrade will enable it. I can use that 8 gig card as a 4 gig at the moment.

I'm doing the same, I just hope we don't have to reformat the card to make all 8 gigs useable on the next OS release. I bet we will...

i am guessing the BB OS partitioned the card into something it could handle. if it did, you would probably have to reformat to use all of it.

I'm not too worried about having to copy/recopy data to/from the card after a reformat if it is necessary. I just hope that the OS upgrade does not take TOO long. If you have a card reader, the data copy is quite a bit faster than on the BB. Actually, I already have an backup of the 8 gigs I placed on the card initially. So I would just need to copy it back.

So 4GBs works fine at the moment, under BlackBerry OS 4.2?

When I try and format my media card in order to be able to use it it just comes up with 'format failed' - anyone have any ideas why?

I'm a believer, but that's only because I'm using an 8G card. When I put it in my 8820 and formatted it, it came up with 3.6G free. I put it in the USB MicroSD reader on my laptop, copied the directory structure, did a FAT32 quick format, copied the structure, and now my card says 7.5G free.

Edit: I'm running 4.2.2.184

On the Curve, or full QWERTY models, you would hold down the ALT key, and type EACE.

Thank you.
It says 4.2.2.170 for the App Version. Is that the OS? If so, does this OS support 4G - 8G cards?

that OS supports 4gb by documentation. many people have gotten more than 4gb to work, though its spotty at best.
