Lightbulb 8330 for ATT... yes ATT

Please Login to Remove!

I just received word from an "ATT Business Advisor" for one of my clients that a new version of the curve will be out called the 8330...

It will have...

-Wifi
-GPS
-3G

He has confirmed this twice... He said it should have been out already but RIM and ATT are having major difficulties with the device due to the battery dieing way to quickly. He said the phones couldn't take 3g and wifi.

Here is the quote from him...

"Yes, that is correct. It has been recently brought to my attention that the updated Curves that were to be launched this quarter were to have the WiFi feature, but was pushed back due the BB batteries not being able to hold enough of a charge to accommodate to the WiFi data transfers. I contacted the retail stores and they confirmed as well that they did not receive the devices due to the recent push back. The Curves that we do carry have GPS installed as well as a camera."

and then I replied....

"So from your emailxxx8230; there a newer curve coming out that will have built in wifi and 3g? Is that the 8330?"

he replied

"Yes, but the new BB device is now forecasted to launch fourth quarter of this year which would be around September/October"

---
I myself posted this in the rumor section... I am not sure I can believe this guy... but maybe someone else can confirm or deny this?

Could there really be 3 different versions of the same form factor all on one carrier????

EDIT>>>>>> ATT Biz Advisor says there are two new devices... the 8400 and 8900

Default No Blackberry 3G for a while ...

I'd call shenanigans specifically because he claims there is a 3G radio in it (or at least agrees to your question regarding it). RIM has been very specific about their 3G plan and the 8330 is not the device that will be debuting with it... All initial RUMOURs point to the 9000 series, but not even the initial offering...

While it's all speculation, RIM's official stance is that they won't be providing 3G blackberries in the near future for AT&T users.... I'd love it if they did though.

He has sent me another email.... this time here is the quote...

"The new models would be the 8900 and 8400."

I have asked him to give me the details and differences between the two.

Tell your business advisor to actually pay attention to the devices they're releasing, or to find a better internal source. There are no devices from RIM with the model numbers of 8900 or 8400. There won't be any with those model numbers. I'm not sure what a 'Biz Advisor' does at AT&T or how much information they have available, but it seems like your guy is getting his information from the internet rather than from official company resources that should be available to him.
