Default AT&T & Curve

Please Login to Remove!

I have been an AT&T/Cingular customer for quite some time now (7+ years). I want to upgrade my current phone to a Curve 8310, however, I don't want to pay full retail price ($400 or so).

My current 2 year contract with AT&T doesn't expire till late 2008 (I have about 9 months left).

Can I get the discounted "2 year contract price" for the Curve if I just extend my contract out - like, add two extra years onto the time I currently have left? Will they allow that?

Or is the best option to buy a used Curve from eBay or some other site? If I go that route, do I need a new SIM card, and will AT&T say anything if I want to change my current phone plan to add the BB Data Plan?

Thank you for any help!

It's a family plan, I believe it's like $120 (or $130) for 1400 minutes, 1000 text messages and 5MB of data. That $120/$130 might also be including the 2 additional family lines ($9.99 each).

I don't have a statement with me at the moment so I can't confirm the exact details, sorry.

Oh and one phone is also enabled with a International calling plan. That's like $5 extra a month, I believe.

No, my phone is not. The bills are paid with my father's credit card (I only have a debit card), so his phone is the primary phone.

Yeah, I'd be adding that $20 a month plan. (1500 texts and unlimited data?)

I think you need the last 4 digits of his SS to access the account? I don't have that information on me and my father's out of the country at the moment... lol. :\

well If upgrading to Curve and adding the BB data plan, you may be able to get a manager to approve an early upgrade for you. Be nice sincere and be open minded you will have to be within 8 months or so from the end of contract!

But if I wanted to buy a phone from eBay or wherever, would I have to do anything regarding SIM cards? Or can my current one (used in a Nokia) work?

So I could just swap in my SIM card, and ask AT&T to add the data plan?

Your eligibility for upgrade and your contract end dates are two separate things, by the way. I'd recommend checking on your upgrade eligibility first with at&t.

Maybeiloveyou,
I did just exactly that back in August. I couldn't stand my Blackjack anymore (bought it in January '07). Somehow it got very hot that I couldn't even put it at my ear during phone call. And having to change battery at 3-4:00 pm everyday is not fun.
Anyway, I called AT&T and asked them about what my options are if I wanted to get a new phone. The nice lady on the phone let me have an early upgrade and charged me the $199.99 price for the 8300.
I think the key is to be nice but firm. Probably the fact that I have 5 phones on the account and pay them $300+ every month might help, too.

Good luck...

Thanks everyone! I'll try my luck with AT&T and if that doesn't go through I'll look at getting a phone from someplace else.
