I'm curious, too. Opera4 seems much slower than the BB browser to me.

There must be someone here who can share some detail on this...I am curious as well. I set Opera mini to use http but I don't really know the difference.

I believe http is the general web interface, unrestricted. a socket is a dedicated port through a firewall that will allow an outside connection where it would otherwise be denied. It's a security thing. If you're firewalled off from the internet and want a port out to connect, then a socket is the term for that port through the firewall, iirc.

it will be a little slower because it goes through the opera proxy to render the page for you...but, even though it is slower you can do things on it that you cannot do with the bb browser...

when opera 4 is set to use http, it seems to hang on connecting way longer than when set to use socket before it starts to process. any idea why?

not sure why, but you are more likely to get the best answer over at the opera mini forums, since this is their product and not a BB app...
