My understanding is that as long as you personally purchased the phone from the correct dealer (ie: Buy an AT&T phone from an AT&T store, then unlock) you can still get your phone taken care of under the RIM warranty for one year. T-Mobile will also help with getting you set up and running, no problems.
I agree with the other poster, don't bother with TMO's insurance, it only covers their own branded phones and AT&T won't cover you unless you have the phone attached to an AT&T plan with their insurance. Also, deductibles are high as well as the price. You can get a standard personal property insurance plan against all perils with just about any mutual insurance company - check with your home insurance company. They have low deductibles and can be had for much cheaper than the one through the cell company. Only difficult part is that you have to maintain the policy yourself (ie: pay separate bill, handle claim forms, etc.)
