Default BES & Reporting

Please Login to Remove!

We run BES 4.x with Domino 6.5

I'm not the Domain admin or the BES admin, but I'm the local admin of over 60% of the users.

The BES admin is telling me that they cannot produce a report from the system showing

Blackberry Model
IMEI Number
Phone Number
Email Account

Am I asking too much from a corporate product or do they just not know what to look for?

From my experiences, BES is not a very good reporting tool.

Hrm .. not quite the response I was hoping for

I've found this in the online manual
BESUserAdminClient using the -handheld_info argument.

I'm going send the BES admin a RTFM request.

Thanks

Before you rip up your BES admin... please keep in mind that what you are about to suggest is not something that is part of a typical BES installation.
They might not even have BESUserAdminClient on the BES at all.

The BESUserAdminClient stuff is part of the BRK which is an optional download from RIM. They may have to download that and install it before they can use it.

FYI for 4.0 the BESUserAdmin tools are a part of the BRK ... with early version of 4.1 it was included and later versions has broken off into its own installation.

This is the data you can get from the 4.1 SP4 BESUserAdminService ...

User Name,PIN,Group Name,Service Name,BlackBerry Device Model,Platform Version,BlackBerry Version,Phone Number,Serial Number,Active Carrier,Home Carrier,Security Password,Network Type,Frequencies,Memory,Direct Connect ID,IT Policy Name,IT Policy Time,Configuration Name,Configuration Status,Status Check Time,System Status,Application Status,Available Space,Battery Level,Uptime

In BES tasks under Device Management, you can "Export Asset Summary Data" which will provide you with the device info and the display name for users. However, it won't give you the email address. We query the database to get the customized reports we're looking for (SQL2000 backend). Since all of that info is held in the database, you should be able to query your db (or have your admins do that for you). We're an Exchange shop, so I'm really not familiar at all with the Domino version of the product, but there's got to be a backend db you can query.

have your BES Admin install berrystats .. makes the reporting aspect much simpler and gives control to other people who ask for this type of reporting.

This type of reporting and much more can be accomplished with the tool:

StealthAUDIT

Check it out at:

stealthbits.com

Look for the BlackBerry Solution.

We also have AD & Exchange Reporting with Correlation to BlackBerry.

If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.
