This also can be used to fix frequent drops in data connection with a new build (particularly a leaked beta build) this solution will help you use the new java components but keep your radio from your old, stable code.

1. Locate and Download the OS on your machine that caused your device to have good reception
2. Locate and Download the OS on your machine that you want to use, but has the data connectivity issues
3. Install both sets of software on your machine to the default location
4. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files and locate the two different OS installations.
5. Open the folder that contains the good radio code
6. Go to the GSM/UMTS/CDMA folder (your OS package will have one of those folder names) NOT the Java folder
7. Right click and Copy the only file located there.
8. Go back to the other OS installation directory and locate the same folder (GSM/UMTS/CDMA) and paste the copied file.
9. It should ask you to overwrite the current file, Click YES
10. If it does not ask you, simply delete the file that was already in the directory, and paste the new file in
11. Go to either Loader.exe under :\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader or run Desktop Manager.
12. Update your OS as normal. You will notice that it might say "downgrade" in certain sections for the core OS. This is due to the radio code and should be ignored.
13. Enjoy your new hybrid OS.

Thanks to Sith_Apprentice.
Trying this now. That high pitched chirp is too much to handle. I'm on the phone well over 2000 minutes per month, so no way I could get used to this.

Default Finally, a stable release

It's about time RIM finally coughed up a stable 4.5x release. I can confirm that the call timer is back, the speakerphone blast is totally gone (in the past couple 4.5x release it was just a ms blast), and the delay in answering the phone from the past couple releases is also gone. I've not run into the audio chirps.

I've finally found a 4.5x release that I will keep. About time!

As suggested above, I pulled the cdma file from .119 into this .160 and chirp is gone, timer is still there. Best (hybrid) OS yet.

I spoke too soon. I am getting the annoying audio beeps/quirps during a call. I've said it before, I'll say it again...RIM needs to get their QA process together. You can't break more than you fix/enhance, and this is consistently the case with RIM. Back to 4.3 for now, and maybe to the Palm Pre later this year!

Why would anyone go back to 4.3? Several good 4.5 builds, including .77, .119. This .160 is the best yet after pulling in the cdma file from .119.

Success.
None of the issues spoken of here. In fact, this is the first upgrade I've done in a while where I didn't have to delete the internet browsing service book and battery pull to get it back.

No chirp or anything. No issues at all. Very satisfied.

Depends on your definition of "good" I guess. I pulled the CDMA file from .119 and the problem with it is the delay on the phone screen when answering call. You hit green button to answer, but screen doesn't update for a second or two. Makes it hard for me to tell when the call has actually been answered. Minor things, I know, but I still find the QA process on these OS builds to be random if not completely lacking altogether.

I seem to lose my data connection more often with this build... No data goes threw my BB and I can not place calls... forcing me to reboot. My BB still shows a 1XEV connection with 3 bars...

Anyone else seen this?

I've also re-activated my phone on VZW by dialing *228... so one of the 2 are messing with my phone :(

There was/may still be a Verizon data outage today. That could be related to your issue today.

The .138 release was Telus.

What do you suggest? The .138 or .160? SteveO is down on .160

I am on .160 and I haven't had any issues. I did lose the call timer with .138. Other than that it was solid. .131 was solid with the call timer.

I never liked 131 or 138 much, so I went back to 119 each time, until this 160 came out. Used a hybrid with the 119 cdma file. Best OS so far imho.
