Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8330:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

For the previous OS, see this link:

How to determine if you have an ESN or MEID based device.
From the main menu, select Options, then select Status.
ESN devices - On the Status screen you will see ESN on the display
MEID devices xxx8211; On the Status screen you will see MEID on the display.
NOTE xxx8211; You cannot install ESN-based software on a MEID device, nor can you install MEID-based software on an ESN device. They are NOT interchangeable.

And this is for ESN 8330 only

Not sure what you have

Call timer?

And nice find, thanks for posting.

aekblade 05-28-2009 12:55 PM

no luck

I've been trying to download it for the past couple hours...IE, firefox and chrome are failing!! anyone get it successfully???:x

JSanders 05-28-2009 12:58 PM

It's not your browser that is failing, it's RIM's servers that having problems for the past several weeks.

juwaack68 05-28-2009 12:59 PM

I just downloaded it and am installing it on my PC as I type. Maybe RIM likes me ;-)

jsconyers 05-28-2009 01:02 PM

I downloaded and just installed to my PC.

The call timer issue was with .138. While you're on a call it does not show how long you've been on the call.

aekblade 05-28-2009 01:37 PM

anyone use it with sprint yet?

jsconyers 05-28-2009 01:39 PM

I'm installing it on a Sprint 8330 as I type this. I will let you know how things go.

juwaack68 05-28-2009 01:43 PM

I just finished the upgrade. Everything went fine except my Calendar didn't restore correctly. Good thing I made a backup first to restore it myself :-)

My calendar didn't restore correctly either. I am activating the device on the BES again. I would advise anyone running the upgrade to create a manual backup prior to upgrading.

juwaack68 05-28-2009 01:47 PM

I upgraded my BIS device first....might hold off on the BES device for now.

Friggin Facebook[CICAL] is back again, too.

aekblade 05-28-2009 04:13 PM

looks good

just finished installing it on sprint 8330. Looks good, but i dont notice anything different..

cyberhound 05-28-2009 05:50 PM

Same calendar restore issue here. The BES activation solved it, but it may be an issue for those not on BES if you don't backup prior to upgrading.

Lol, you all didn't believe me about this OS did you?

I posted it last night.

The calender always screws up when you upgrade these 4.5 builds.

I would imagine the reason he added that would be because not everybody knows that there are MEID based 8330s and ESN based 8330s.

It makes perfect sense.

What improvements are people seeing? So far, call timer is back. What else? Can't believe how the last two official releases for the 8330 were never out in the wild as a beta first. Our beta folks are slipping!

Never has happened to me before today. I have upgraded 4.5 builds twice without incident. Of course this one was easily fixed.
