Unfortunately for me setting the APN doesn't help berry411. I also tried bbweather and found the same story as with bbcorrector. If I disable MDS Proxy I can get it to work. Hopefully this will help Phil figure out what's going on with berry411 and berrysearch.

Of course, even without autocomplete berry411 is my one essential blackberry application.

I assume that with 3.85, since I set the APN and the autocomplete is populating, that I'm stll only seeing the local autocomplete. I assume this because I'm 99% sure I tried setting the APN earlier with one of the 3.7X versions and then deleted it when it didn't make a difference. Anyway, is there something I can do with 3.85 to test whether I'm getting autocomplete from the server at all, or just the local?

Ok...I'm ready to admit, possibly, that I am nuts.

I went back to the beta link Phil provided in this thread and downloaded berry411 from that location. I wanted to try again now that I have APN set. It showed as 3.85 but I downloaded and installed over the 3.85 I had. The menu showed Edit Addresses/Options but the Advanced Network Settings section was not there. So I downloaded 3.85 from the main berry411 link again, installing over the berry411 on my BB. Well, playing around, I tried berrysearch again, and autocomplete on berryseach now works!!!!

This is not a puzzle. It is a mystery and I give up (especially given that it is working. ) I'm sure in my case it is me, but I swear I tried setting the APN with 3.7 and with berrysearch before and it didn't fix the autocomplete in either app.

I put up a new beta 3.86 that has the advanced network settings (http://thebogles.com/beta/berry411.jad)

Thanks to the helpful discussion, it sounds like it is necessary to both check the "direct" radio button under "Edit Options" and ensure that the APN settings are correct for your carrier under the "Options : Advanced : TCP" on the home screen; some of the BBCorrector threads have the carrier specific info.

Can anyone try that and let me know if they have luck?

Version 3.86: Direct works. Default does not. Didn't try BES (I'm on BIS).

Phil, I'm curious about berrysearch 0.9 and why autocomplete is working now. I'm sure I tried APN setting before. Did berry411 fix somehow fix a resource that berrysearch uses or something, or have I been wrong all along about berrysearch not working?

Phil,

Direct connect works for me. Default and BES do not. 3.86 now gives me autocomplete with the direct connect setting and my APN set for T-Mobile. I do not get autocomplete for berrysearch.

Thank you for putting the time into solving this.

using BIS on Telus and at some point have also lost autocomplete. Strangely enough, I have also lost the white pages function and can't make any name lookups work? When using white pages, I get a Google pages response that "Your search - <name>,, - did not match any documents"

Always worked before - its a feature I use often.

edit... I'm now trying out 3.86 and none of the 3 settings will make autocomplete work. I see the data arrows working as though they're trying though and have set it to allow connections from Berry411

Did you enter APN address for your carrier?

I'm not certain how to do that.

when I go to my main option menu, into advanced there is no TCP option. I may be in the wrong menu?

I should note that I'm on Telus in Canada with a 7130e. So its the Canadian white pages i'm having problems with (if I set myself a US address it works)

That's the way I do it. Don't know why you don't see TCP. I'll have to leave for someone else to answer that. (BES?)

That's good news; I'll need to port similar configurability into BerrySearch.

Made the Canadian white pages work by removing the postal code from my home/work addresses. Not sure if I need them or not but they've always been there before.

Still can't get the autocomplete to work, looking at the thread posted earlier about APN it appears that Telus cdma blackberries do not have the TCP option. I have a 7130e with the latest 4.1.0.359 oh well still the best program ever

As the great Forest Gump once said, "I'm not a smart man, Jenny, but I do know what love is" The more I read the dumber I get, nevertheless I really need someone to give some instructions on how to install berry 411 on my nextel/sprint 7520. Run Forest! Run!

Well, starting simply use the browser on your BB and enter the following address - http://thebogles.com/berry411.jad

The download should begin quickly. You will be asked if you want to download or cancel - just click on download and if a message pops up telling you the application doesn't have a signature select OK and it will complete the install. Last step will be a pop up message asking if you want to reboot now or later - just select reboot now and in a minute or so you'll be all set.
