Berry411 now suggests relevant web links and podcasts
Berry411 version 3.8 now suggests relevant links to mobile web sites (recommended by BlackberryOne, Cantoni.org, Smallsites, and Otweb.com) and podcasts (provided via Podlinez) based on your yellow pages search; you can download 3.8 over the air on your Blackberry at http://thebogles.com/berry411.jad, or upgrade using the "About/Upgrades" menu item.
Herexxx8217;s how it works. Suppose you were looking for wine. As well as suggesting wine related searches, Berry411 suggests links to mobile web pages about wine. http://thebogles.com/blog/wp-content...7D%5B9%5D3.png Clicking on them takes you directly to the site. http://thebogles.com/blog/wp-content...D%5B11%5D3.png As before, Berry411 yellow page results include inline links to reviews from Yelp and Urbanspoon. http://thebogles.com/blog/wp-content...D%5B17%5D3.png So Berry411 can help you both the right wine and the best wine store. Mobile podcasts are similar. Suppose you wanted the lastest new from Digg. Berry411 suggests links to the Digg podcast (Diggnation) as well as the Digg mobile we site. There are several hundred podcasts are available, including some of my favorites from NPR like xxx8220;Wait Waitxxx8221; and xxx8220;This American Lifexxx8221;. http://thebogles.com/blog/wp-content...D%5B15%5D3.png |
Will the podcasts play on the Pearl, ala streaming audio?

Thanks Phil!

Wow...another reason why this will always be as essential as my Blackberry itself.
Thanks Phil. |
so do the podcast act as data or minutes from my voice plan....im confused??
|
I uploaded v3.82 but now the auto complete isn't working. Anyone else having this problem?
btw-Great program. Regards-Michael G. |

What is the difference between B411 and Berry Search? I've just been using 411 since I don't know when to use search. :)
|
Berry411 is about local search (e.g. yellow pages, shopping, weather, sports, etc.), BerrySearch is about internet reference search (e.g. Google, Wikipedia, Dictionary, etc.) Of course Berry411 does some of the latter as well but BerrySearch does it better.

For those folks whose autocomplete isn't working, this is apparently a carrier or BES restriction. (Can you describe any restrictions your BES administrator might have in place?)
Until/if a workaround is found, you can run 3.6 (http://thebogles.com/berry411/3.60/berry411.jad) |

I mentioned earlier on another thread that I asked TMO about my data plan and whether it might somehow be set with different permissions than the plan my friends have. The person said no, it is either on or off. I don't know any better, so if this might not be true, please let me know, and give me some info, and I'll call TMO again. Thanks. update: Also, for what it's worth, I get the firewall prompt when I first install the app, asking for permission to connect to the server. I've been selecting the option to allow all http connections. And I can see the arrows blink in the top right as I enter each character in the search string, but then nothing shows in the autocomplete space. It's as if the BB is communicating out to the server, but nothing is coming back (at least definitely not to the display). I get no error messages. |
By the way, 3.83 (just released) restores the ability to clear your search history which was missing in previous 3.8x releases.

Phil,
I'm using Berry411 with an unlimited Cingular BES BB plan. I'm not aware of any thrid party or other restrictions from the BES administrator and I'm running several thrid party applications. I'm using both BES and BIS. I'm also seeing the communication arrows as I type with Berry411 with the auto-complete list isn't populated. No error messages either. Regards-Michael G. |

Ps - "This American Life" rocks. 8-) |
same issue here.
No Suggestions populate. I downgraded to 3.6. I have the same issue with berrysearch. |
I downgraded to 3.50 and the autocomplete started to work again. I then upgraded to 3.83 to see if it would work and it did. I noticed though if I am not in an EVDO supported area it takes about 15 seconds to populate the list. But if I am in an EVDO area it is pretty much instant. By the way I am on vzw with a hosted BES.

can berry411 possibly get any better??8-)
