Default Empower (AND now BBSmart) probs: BIS 2.5/OS 4.5?

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone having probs with Empower since upgrading to OS4.5 or BIS 2.5?

Since OS4.5, I've not been able to open attachements or get the menu key to work (with BES emails). But if I turn Empower off, no probs;

Since BIS 2.5 (yesterday all was good), today I've not been able to view text in the body of the email, unless I do it through the BB default viewer.

UPDATE: I installed trial version of BBSmart mail viewer, and am having similar (though not as bad) problems. I noticed that emails on my device from before June 29th, when I resent my service books (2.5), work but those since don't.

ANYONE?

If you have OS 4.5, and BIS 2.5 ... then why do you still have Empower on your device?

EDIT: Scratch that... I see you were referring to BES mail.

Empower provides a few options not available w/ 2.5; though I wouldn't now buy the program, since I already have it.....

Second that, but Ani needs to make some changes to make it work better with new BIS and OS 4.5

Go to getempower.com download trial and you should get the latest version 3.0.70. Works for me on 46. Not sure you need it now that 2.5 BIS is out. You basically only have color options with empower now.

Wirelessly posted (8800)

My guess is that EMV doesn't know how to interpret the HTML that the BIS delivers, and therefore renders a blank message. REXwireless' AlertMatrix viewer does the same thing. I've bounced back and forth between setting the HH to download HTML and viewing with the built-in viewer and disabling the HTML option and using EMV. For now, I still prefer EMV, as it allows per account header settings and changes to the background. I really like that the HH finally renders HTML messages, though.

The updated version of Empower DOES WORK well with 4.5. I have an 8310 running 4.5.0.37 and although the HTML worked for formatting messages, it did not do the images the way Empower does I like the option of having them loaded without asking. Getting the new version gave the images back to me...

If you go to Empower Options in your email menu there is a button to Get Empower. That will let you get the latest OTA. Then you can update registration which will get rid of the 'Trial Version' message at the bottom of emails.

What's the lastest version number for Empower? the version I have is 3.0.68.7 and when I go in the Empower options and check for updates and click the link, it shows the same version that I have.

for some reason the version shows up in "about" as 3.0.70.7, but as 3.0.68.7 on the Empower website. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled, same numbers appear.

Has anyone else dealt with Empower customer support. I'm growing weary. It took days for them to reply, and it was non-responsive (they apparently hadn't read my message closely, and thus gave me suggestions unrelated to the pending issue). I've responded to them and have not heard back for a few days.

For a $30 program that's becoming relatively obsolete I'd expected a quicker, more thorough response (or maybe not).

That's exactly what I'm seeing.

endure161, can you go into "Options"+"Advanced Options"+"Applications" and check the version that's listed there for Empower?

Thanks

UPDATE: I installed trial version of BBSmart mail viewer, and am having similar (though not as bad) problems. I noticed that emails on my device from before June 29th, when I resent my service books (2.5), work but those since don't.

Have you changed Mesages > Options > Email Settings >Enable HTML Email to No for all accounts? It is a per-account setting.

Once you do that, any other HTML viewer app should render new messages properly. Any messages sent as HTML from the BIS will still not render properly in the 3rd party apps - you'll have to use EMV's "Toggle HTML/Text" to see it in the standard email app (but I've noticed that the menu key won't work when you're viewing a BIS HTML message in EMV - so you have to disable EMV as the default for all accounts and use the standard app as the 'gateway' into those BIS HTML messages).

I've ditched the BIS HTML for now, as I prefer EMV. I've set the Enable HTML Email to No for all accounts, and all is performing just fine.

Regardless of what shows up on the empower website, if you do an OTA install of EMV you should get the latest version (3.0.70.7) that works with OS 4.5.0.x.

Hope that helps.

I'll try some of the things you suggest. The best news (for me anyway) is that I've learned from you I'm not the only one having the particular problem.

How do I revert back from BIS 2.5?

thanks

You can't revert back from the BIS upgrade - that's a carrier server.

You CAN disable HTML emails on your device.

Keep in mind that when you enable HTML emails, all messages from that point forward are delivered from the BIS as RIM's HTML format - the kind EMV can't render. When you disable HTML emails, all messages from that point forward are delivered in the earlier RIM non-HTML format and can be rendered by EMV.

I suspect that you've got a window of time where you were receiving the BIS HTML messages that EMV can't render. One solution I've read is to forward those messages to yourself again (after you've changed your device's HTML settings to your liking) so they come in from the BIS server in the right format.

Thank you. Finally, I learn, from you (not Empower support), what the problem may be.

Ok so here’s what happened: I disabled HTML on BB device, and tried each app BBSmart/Empower. BBSmart opens email w/ attachments from my personal and work addresses (BIS/BES) but without BBSmart formatting (that is, colors, fonts etc); however emails without attachments open w/ full BBS formatting.

Even more interesting/perplexing, when I resend the identical emails to each of my two email accounts using Empower, I can view the email with the Empower formatting visible (along with the icon for the attachment etc), but the menu button doesn’t work so I can’t open the attachment, or do anything else for that matter.

What do you think?

And for what it's worth, I agree that BBSmart/Empower offers more options, better views etc., than BB HTML and thus am still going to use the 3rd pty app, that is assuming I can get one of them to work.
Again thanks

New observation: When I click on BBsmart view, after an email has opened (saw the BBsmart conversion bar, but automatically opened in BB view), I get an error message: Uncaught exception: classname does not exist in the current application

If I turn off HTML, and therefore use Empower/BBSmart, should images automatically appear in the body of the email? (the only setting I've been able to find re automatically dsplaying images is in options 'after' I've enabled HTML).
