The 8GB Class 4 card that I purchased via Amazon recently works great in my new VZW 8330. After reading numerous posts here and elsewhere I decided to use just the 'mass storage' connectivity via the Desktop Manager program rather than trying to mess with Roxio, etc. Even a class 4 card (which I think transfers data at 4Mb/sec?) was very fast and 8GB of storage is a LOT!

It does but you might have to upgrade your OS
Example if you have:
OS 4.2.1 = 1G
OS 4.2.2 = 2G
OS 4.3 =4G
OS 4.5 =8 G

Yeah...I just got mine from TigerDirect ($107.99), expensive but worth not having to also lug around the iPod...

Does it matter on the carrier?
I've heard differing views...I have a 4.2 and my carrier is AT&T and I'm running a 2 gig card, but really want to upgrade...I don't think the 4.3 is out for AT&T because I was looking for it when I did the mass memory upgrade on my BB...Just don't want to waste money on a card that won't work...

Micro Center the other day was selling generic 4GB micro SD cards at the register for 19.95, work fine in my 8320 and tested faster than my previous SanDisk 2 GB micro.

incorrect. the 4.2.2 OS serves up 4GB cards just fine. i know this because i'm using one and all the literature explicitly states that.

it's ok. the device's bus peaks out at 4MB/sec.

your card will peak at 6MBps, but your blackberry peaks at not that high.

one will see little to no difference between a class 4 and a class 6 card if the device's bus becomes the bottleneck.

but when an external device is the bottleneck, like going from a class 2 to a class 4 card, only then will you notice a difference.

What about comparing Class 4 to anything higher? Will you notice a difference in speed then? Bus speed on the device to play movies and such isnt an issue for me. What I have an issue with is how fast I can transfer files to the memory card while its connected directly to the pc (via SD adapter, not through the Blackberry)

using mass storage mode will be slower than using a direct connection with an SD adapter.

if you go with a class 6 card, you'll only be able to realize its speed by popping out the card and inserting it into an adapter.

Awesome, so my 8GB Class 4 card should be a huge upgrade to my classless generic 1GB PNY card.

(my card is here, but my 8310 is still enroute... should be here this week though!)
