Default Bluetooth file xfer problems

Please Login to Remove!

I deleted all the default ringers / reminders for my 8100, since I needed all the free memory I could get my hands on. There are a *few* mp3’s that I have that I want to xfer onto the device, and I am having problems doing just that.
Media, (menu key), explore to /device Memory/home/user/ringtones/, (menu key), receive w/ BT, send file via my BT software
And this is the error that BlueSolei throws back

Any ideas?

Several things come to mind here:

1. I wrote the thread on freeing up memory by removing unneeded modules. However, I don't recommend removing the preinstalled ringtones as it can mess up the profiles something fierce.

2. Do you have a memory card? If not, you are limited to 2.86Mb file size for transfer to device memory. One mp3 is bigger than all the preinstalled ringtones.

3. For transferring files via bluetooth you have to do the following:

Go to the Media app and then hit the Menu key and select "Explore." Then browse to where you want to save the file. Then hit the Menu key again and select "Receive Using Bluetooth." Once you've done that, go ahead and send from the other device.

1) why not? so far, its been fine for me.
2) this i didnt know. the mp3 in question is ~ 3.8 Mb

so i will try again with a much smaller mp3.

and do you know of any programs that can convert mp3's into lower bitrates better suited to the blackberry... so i have awesome tunes and a small memory footprint

thanks a bunch!

Yeah, you can remove it....if you are transferring files to a Media Card. I REALLY recommend getting a media card. They are cheap...I can pick up a 2Gb card at NewEgg.com for $8.

yeah, they are pretty cheap, but im trying not to buy anything for my current phone until i get more news about the 3g iPhone. If i can pick one of those up cheap enough w/ 3g and gps then i will most likely switch over immediately.

oh well, thanks for your help. ill try editing the song down until its well under the 1mb limit, perfect for a 30 second ring tone.
