Been a browser of these forums for a long time now. But finally got round to registering - expecially since I have come across an issue I cant fix.

I have recently got a 8310 from a Business contact of mine. The problem is it seems to have originated from Portugal! Everything was fine, I ran set up and switched it all over to English and removed the rest of the languages.

I then used the 'Switch Device' function on Desktop Manager to bring across all my emails, outlook appointments, contacts, BES setttings etc etc. That went fine.

However, I then went and put in my Orange SIM card and it rejected it. 'Invalid Sim Card'. This is a pain as this is SIM I have my BES subscription on. To begin with I thought the SIM might have gone faulty as it is an old works one. So I through in my personal O2 SIM card in the back which is BIS enabled - again 'Invalid SIM Card'.

I checked the Network settings in the 'Manage Connections' option and it seems the netork is locked to Vodafone UK. Even when trying to manually select the network I need.

I have a lot of contacts in the mobile industry and I drop a friend of mine an email with the IMEI and he has checked the device and it is definately NOT a Vodafone branded handset so apparently it should accept any of the SIM cards I put in it.

Could the issue be because of the fact it originates from Portugal? Or is there something else I can try?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. If you need any more information please ask.

Many thanks,

Kris.

P.S I have also tried multiple resets and wipes also.
Further to my original post, I thought I had found a way round this.

I was passed a 'Turbo Sim'. For those of you unfamiliar with this please visit SIMable - Home (I am sorry if I am not supposed to post links!).

It has worked and has tricked the device and my Orange SIM has been recognised. I am now able to send and recieve texts, make calls etc.

So, because the use of Desktop Manager is prohibited on works PC's, I had out IT Administrator kill off my BES on my old device and send me a new activation email and password.

I went to activate the handset but get the following message;

Quote:
"Activation request failed. A service connection is unavailable"
I have tried 4 times now, and have rebooted twice also.

I have just noticed I only get 'gprs' and not 'GPRS'. Could this be the issue and do you think this could be down to the 'Turbo SIM'?

Sorry for all the questions. You help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kris

Maybe. It sounds like you just need to unlock your BB. Manage Connections won't tell you if the device is locked. You need to go to Options->Advanced Options->SIM Card and type in MEPD.

If it says "Active" to the right of Network then your BB is locked. Get the carrier or an unlocking service to provide you the unlock code.

I am beginning to think this is the answer.

However, after further investigation I have learn that the Curve actually doesnt have anything in 'Service Books' or 'Host Routing Table'.

I have downloaded a Firmware Update and am about to run that.

In the mean time, I reactivating my old handset (Pearl) on BES.

Once I have installed the Firmware update on the Curve, I am going to use the Switch Device Option on Desktop Manager from my home PC.

Hopefully, in conjunction with the Turbo SIM this should work its way around the problems.

What do you all think?
