I had a question reguarding how GPS services charge? Do they use data plan or do you have to have bb internet also? I noticed that some of the GPS do come with free trials but was curious on what they use to charge you besides monthly. Would it affect you data plan? Or anything on your bill?

Most of the ones that charge, just charge you a monthly subscription fee. You also have to pay for data through your data plan. If you're on an unlimited plan then it doesn't matter.

No, the almanac is transmitted through the satelite signal, no BB data plan required.

100% wrong. As a matter of fact, not only you NOT need a data plan, you don't even need cell service. That's right, TURN OFF your wireless radio, and you will still be able to communicate with GPS satellites

I'd like to know how to even activate the GPS. Orange won't help and the BlackBerry website is unhelpful.

Your Curve 8320 does not have GPS built in. You'd need to purchase a bluetooth GPS receiver. This is the one I use: www.keychaingps.com

The GPS receiver doesn't need a BB data plan. Your GPS app may or may not need data depending on how it is designed.

You need both and possibly a BB data plan for GPS on a BB. The receiver itself is only going to give you your latitude and longitude.

Actually, I think it is with Sprint's service Telenav, because my 8130 also will NOT work witout data service, I tried.

But seriously this topic has gone over and over on here.

GPS does NOT require a data plan, or even wireless service, to give you a longitude/latitude reading.

Your GPS software MAY require a data plan to retrieve the maps from a web server, depending on how it is set up.

YES it IS possible to get a GPS app that will work with no data plan, and simply stores the maps on your media card.

Some carriers require you to use their GPS application to get the GPS to work at all, and in these cases, you can NOT hack the device to make it work.
