Default 8310 Camera - is this as good as it gets?

Please Login to Remove!

Wanting to ensure there is not something wrong with my BB. The pictures I take vary from very poor to marginal at best - is this as good as it gets?

Suggestions for how to improve the quality? Focus and clarity seem to be the major shortcomings. I realize it's not a dedicated camera.

Thanks!

Forget it. The Curve camera blows bears. I'm on my second Curve and the pictures suck just as bad as the original Curve did.

Mine are generally sharper than that.. is your lens foggy or partially blocked by anything?

It helps to wait a few seconds before taking the picture. That allows the camera to make adjustments. The phone's processor is not fast enough to do this efficiently, which can give you trouble when photographing kids and animals, since they can't stand still a few seconds, so take what you can get there.

I get better photos too. It looks like your lens is dirty. Also taking your photos at 1x produces better photos. It's not a Nikon but usable.

it could be better

lighting plays a very good factor.

Looks like there wasn't enough lighting when you took the pic.

But thats how many pictures look indoors with "ok" lighting. It takes much better pics outdoor and believe it or not, with the flash. I suggest using the flash and see if it helps. It should.

nope.

Another hint... get that big ol' gnarley toe out of the picture.
That would help.

Hey, my toe is not gnarley!
But it is sneaky how it sneaked into the picture somehow.

Thanks everybody - main thing I wanted was confirmation and expectation setting. Agreed, I have experienced that it is very dependant upon good lighting conditions.

I get fantastic pictures out of my 8320.

I do crop some and a little photo editing work on others, depending on how I want it to look style-wise.

Your images from the Curve are highly dependent on lighting. The images you show were in poor lighting. Maybe get those feet with that toe to take you outside in some decent light.

Agreed: lighting is your issue. Try enabling the flash when indoors.

Now if it is tooo bright outside, it can make the pics a tad burly.

but like what rivviepop posted, my pics normally come out like that in the "perfect" lighting situation or at night with flash.

Actually it takes pretty good pics too in pitch black with the flash on. I was amazed.

Range is an issue too as well.

Did you change the quality to superfine in the camera options?

Welcome to the forums, bbnflpn.
Must be something different with the two models because mine looks pretty good.

Like any other imaging device, if sensitivity has to be boosted then noise will be boosted along with the signal. Make sure you have good lighting. For the Curve, you really need very good lighting as it has a particularly poor imaging sensor -- and of course, very poor optics which are common to all camera phones.

I agree - it really does seem like a random device issue as people have posted pics both ways here on the forums over time, some good some bad. You would think they were all made the same, but nope - even back when I used Nokia S60 the cameras had the same quality randomness from device to device (but the same model). With those phones I seemed to have the bad luck and get the crappy ones most of the time, but in exchange for that I didn't have the other quality problems some folks had (creaking cases, keys that broke, etc.). My 6682 I got lucky and had a good cam, others didn't.
