Hi,
Its been a week since my wife and I got identical 8310's. I am noticing that my battery seems to drain a lot faster than my wife's.

e.g. 1: For an overnight period from midnight to 7am my battery dropped from 55% to 20% while my wife's dropped from 85% to only 80%.

e.g. 2: For a day period from 8am to 10pm my battery dropped from 100% to 50% while my wife's dropped from 100% to 85%

Usage: Her bluetooth is on 24hrs but only paired when she is in the car so around 2hrs/day. She does not browse the web much.

My bluetooth is always off, I have TeleNav installed which she does not, my Opera browser is used around 30-60min/day.

Could there be background apps that need to be turned off to conserve battery life? I read the battery FAQ's on the forum but still cant figure out the drop in my battery especially the overnight statistics that I mentioned. Also, both battery's were identically cycle-conditioned during the first few days as advised in the FAQ's.

Should I have AT&T replace the battery? Would they just swap the battery or the phone out?

Swap your battery with your wife's battery for a day or so and see what happens.
This will determine if your battery is bad, or if it's a software issue on your device.

If you use the messaging, web or email a lot more than she does that would play a big part.

I bought one of those and they are awesome. Yesterday was a fairly busy email/surf/call day (I'd say 100 emails in and out) and it used 15% of the battery by 11:00 pm.

Blackberry provides a 1 year warranty on their batteries, so it would be a free replacement for you if the battery is defective...I would definitely recommend the battery swap like was previously suggested & keep an eye on applications that are running in the background (just hold down alt & press the back button to the right of the trackball to see them--works like alt+tab on a computer) & be sure to shut down any you don't need.

Penguin - yes, I'll do the swap to observe results!

Toni - good hint about the Alt+Back to see the running aps. I had a few that apparently were still running that could be eating the battery.

Also, can someone tell me how to get rid of PTT (push-to-talk). It was in the background and I'd like to delete the application. I'm seeing a little blue dot on my screen indicating its "off".

Also, why is it that hitting close from the menu option really does not close out the application? e.g. the BB Browser and BB Messenger both appear when I hit ALT+Back even though I have selected "Close" from the menu option for each of those applications.

I doubt it is the battery. Most likely what software is open

GPS drains the battery. Whenever u use telenav make sure u CLOSE the program thru the menu.
I had the same problem with google maps but once I started CLOSING the program thru its menu my battery life has been fine.

There are five applications that you can never close out completely on your Blackberry. They are Browser, Call Log, Home Screen, Messages, and Blackberry Messenger.

I had the same issue.

I found my problem to be because I installed MDS on the phone and left wifi on at work. Also, there is BES at work. I do not have a BES plan. It was continuously trying to connect to the wifi network, and couldnt (PEAP ....)

Things went back to normal when I turned off wifi at work. And uninstalled MDS from the phone.

your phone should not be using up that much juice while not in use at night. If losing that much, I would be worried.....

Check to seee if any apps are running in the background. Use ALT + Back Key and see whats there. All you really should see is a home icon, phone, address book, internet browser, message folder and blackberry messenger. If you have anything else, enter the program and make sure you use the menu to exit. Try that, if not, your phone is sucking up juice.
