I am relatively new here, only a few weeks. I came here looking for info on the Blackberry because I never talked to one BB owner who disliked the phone. So far I have owned about 8 Treos (some of them broke). I was reluctant to change because that's the way we are, go with what you know. I am writing this because there was nothing like this post when I did a search for info before buying an 8830.

Do not be afraid. Walk into the light! The BB is easy to use and is ten times better than the Treo, including the 755 which I returned to buy my BB. I have business partners who thought I was nuts until I highlighted a phone number in a meeting note and dialed from it. "Hey, how did you do that?" one of them said. "Yep, and it actually works with the Bluetooth in my car too" I told them.

Anyway, just go buy it. It will be OK.

I had one treo... 700P. The Palm OS is a dated dinosaur, and they should be ashamed of pushing it's antiquated technology on people. It like a a phone running windows 95.

I use to be a treo guy...went thru several models, was a bb guy some years ago but got turned off my nextel (replaced the bb about 3 times and nextel refused to take care of me) so the two things just componded things...anyways, got an 8800 and love it. Phone is great, speaker phone is great, track ball took a little getting use to but much better than the wheel on the side with my 8700. The things I miss are touch screen, camera, and ir...but I can live without them for now.

go with a bb, you will love it

Not to quibble since it's over with, but the Treo does allow you to highlight phone numbers and dial it in text fields. There is a 3rd party app that lets you highlight the number and choose to either dial or sms the number, even. I think the features between the two are nearly identical, the BB just does it more efficiently and without the need for 3rd party apps. Both are fine smartphones.

I used Palm Pilots for years. I tried the Treo with the Palm OS and it was not too bad when I did not know about Blackberry. After my first Blackberry, a Nextel 6510, there was no turning back. Heck the 7520 is still my all time favorite Blackberry and I still keep it in the drawer. Nice to take it out and handle, no better keyboard on any Blackberry.

I agree but.... most of the guys in my office won't go across the street to get a feature let alone tweak with software. The BB is just so much simpler to configure.

I have a guy that just can't make the jump to a Blackberry. He's had a Palm PDA (no phone) and is able color code his calendar and doesn't want to give that up.

I was a long-time Treo user, having started with the 600. Revolutionary at the time, I was drawn in by the external storage and by it being the first true "convergence device" that seemed to actually work. It was revolutionary at the time. But as models progressed, the OS became too unstable. How do you trust your cell phone if it resets at will? The answer: Get A Blackberry.

The reason for the freezing is that the OS is an outdated Dinosaur. Nuff Said.
Blackberry is like a Mac, simple, elegant, easy to use...and it just works. They are the best at what they do in their field of competition. If you want to stroke out at a young age, couple a Palm device with a Windows Vista PC...eeek!
Kinda funny that Palm put Windows on their phones...makes you wonder?
