Major problems with tmobile Blackberry curve
Please Login to Remove!
I have had my blackberry curve mobile phone for approx 3 months now. It was replaced last week because the track ball wasn't working properly and wouldn't move the cursor up and down.
In addition, I live in NYC and Tmobile claims that they are having problems with Text Messaging since November 2007 and still haven't fixed the problem, I get about half of the text's sent to me at random.
In addition, I get tons of dropped calls, the network is horrible and now my phone is shutting itself down, every call, every time, the screen goes dark and the hour glass comes up and it will reboot itself at random, as if I had taken the battery out and then put it back in.
I took it ot the TMobile store, they put a new SIM card in, put another battery in and still the same problems exist.
I am fed up, what should I do about this?
Thank you for the feedback!

i had t-mobile for 4 years now.. i also live in nyc. no problems.. i think in 4 years ive had one droped call lol.. the only major thing that sucks about t-mobile is the sidekick service.. it is almost impossible to get full service which you need to use instant messaging.

I would start with reloading the handheld software and a simple search here will find you many threads on how to do that
I highly doubt a major carrier like tmo would have a major service interruption like yours going on in NYC for this length of time. Can you imagine the press it would get if thousands of NYC tmo customers weren't getting their sms?
Start with reloading hh sw and if you can swap devices with a friend for a few and see if the problem is really following your sim. If it does follow your sim to a buddies device then its an issue on your account in the network backend, if it doesn't follow you to your buddies device with your sim then you know its a device issue with your bb and it can also be warranty replaced if the reload of hh sw doesn't work.
Hope this helps

TMobile service isn't the greatest in NYC, but they aren't that bad. I have been using TMO with my BB for about 3 years now. I have Sprint for my personal and can't complain about them.

With 6 days left in my remorse period, finally had it with T-Mo in Des Moines. Signal doesn't penetrate many buildings, no EDGE network in significant parts of town. Thought they might have upgraded but not the case. The Curve is a wonderful phone, but I need signal. Back it goes tomorrow.

same problem with att
I got my phone august of 08. and ever since i have had problems. im with att and the man who sold me the phone did NOT inform me of anything. he told me that because my family had a 25$ or higher texting plan i will only have to pay 15 extra a month instead of 30$ (LIE) my phone started deleting my texts pictures and calender information in about oct. nov. it wouldnt except my memory card either. i had to buy a new one. and ever since i bought it the silver ring around my track ball has been loose (i figured its because you could take it off to clean the track ball.) and so recently i did because my track ball stuck, and it wont go back on, and tonight the whole thing popped out as i was putting it in my pocket and i lost the silver ring. right now im using tape to hold it together. im very upset and not happy. i paid 200 dollars for a "smart phone" that turned out to be a really STUPID phone.

This is a common problem. It's known as operator error. ;)
If you search the forum, you will find several threads and links to videos about 1) the proper way to remove and replace the trackball and 2) places to order a replacement trackball.
Also, if you search the forum, you will find out that your phone is deleting data because you allowed it to get low on memory. You will also find ways to increase your free memory and ways to prevent the deletion from happening. Starting with doing a battery pull.

Just going to throw my 2 cents in about a "sticking" trackball.
When I was very ill and stuck in hospitals or stuck in bed at home 23 hrs of the day, I was obviously on my BB a ton to stay "connected" to the world. Well, my hands probably weren't always the cleanest - I was eating a lot of juicy fruit, particularly oranges. I noticed my trackball starting to really stick ie. I couldnt even spin it in particular directions. After cleaning hands well (get that sugary crap off my hands and learning to keep handy wipes nearby), I took a Q-Tip and just dipped the tip in a miniscule drop of rubbing alcohol. Honestly, dont soak it up!
I touched the Q-Tip to the trackball and just started rolling the ball around like crazy. I mean, for like 20 minutes - forcing it slightly every now and then in the particular direction that was constantly sticking. Fortunately, for me, after a good 20 minutes whatever "gunk" was making the trackball stick broke free or whatever. I really suspect probably a little sugary juice was making it stick - and my trackball was back 100%.
I suggest this because I very often hear about people returning their BBs for trackball issues (nothing else wrong with phone) - they return to provide and get sent home with a BB that actually has: memory issues, application issues, screen issues or whatever. Don't panic! Take some time and a deep breath and read this forum. Lots of little DIY fixes here!

Blackberry's are more like mini computers than phones, and must be treated as such.
How much memory do you have? Options>Status>File Free:
You want to see more that 15 million here "15xxxxxx" after restarting the phone by pulling the battery. If this gets low the phone will act crazy. I run about 18 million after a battery pull and if my phone starts to approach 10 million I pull the battery!
Remove all applications that you don't use and cut your text and mail storage to 15 days. If you get picture messages save the messages to your memory card and delete the message. Oh on that note you do have a memory card don't you?
Delete email messages that you don't need on your phone.
Also I think I notice more dropped calls when I am using UMA and the battery is low. So keep the battery above 25% when ever possible.
