Default Weird black/blue rectangle symbol on voice calls?

Please Login to Remove!

I just noticed today that when I am on a voice call, a envelope shaped symbol comes on the screen next to the volume level indicator. It is half black and half blue.

When I put it on speakerphone, it goes away.

Does anyone know what this is or what it means?

Thanks

Are you using a 8130? Your profile says 8830. Which one?

if you are using 8130 then you have enabled audio enhancement. you are either increasing bass or treble.

Actually, it just means audio enhancement is enabled...you don't need to modify bass or treble for the icon to appear.

Go into the call log, BB key and selection Options>Enhanced Audio and the screen there says "Automatic Volume Control."

If that is enabled, the funny box will appear during calls. Since I've enabled it (subjective perception warning) I have been able to reduce volume on calls and still hear and be heard clearly.

Well, maybe we are running different OS versions. On my Verizon issued OS, you must choose either "enhance bass" or "enhance treble" to get the square to show up. i just tested it.

I'm on the Alltel .81 release, and have never adjusted bass or treble, and always have the icon when in a call....don't know why your experience is different.

It was the same on the .71 Sprint, and don't remember about .65 Telus. I never had enhanced audio on when I was running the original Verizon release.

hmmm...very strange....do this please...

phone -> options -> general options -> enhance call audio -> what is selected?

mine is set to "normal" and i do not get the box - IF i set it to either "enhance bass" or "enhance treble" , i get the box.

Hmmm...I've never changed (or really even looked at) that setting...it is set to "Previous" right now. I assume that's the default.

Is your Options>Enhanced Audio>Automatic Volume Control set to On or off?

Try setting the first to Previous, and the second to "on" and what happens?

it was set to off. i just changed it to on. i made one call and the square was not there. i just made another call and square is there now. i do not get it...perhaps the 8130 turns on/off bass and treble boost as it sees fit on a call by call basis???

That may be it...but I thought the Automatic Volume Control was not the same as the Bass/Treble adjustment you referenced. One talks about volume, the other about Bass/Treble, which aren't really the same (or shouldn't be, w/that wording).

here are my current settings:
phone -> options -> general options -> enhance call audio -> "set to normal"

phone -> options -> enhanced audio -> automatic volume control -> "set to enabled"

not getting the square right now.

Thanks...I guess the "Previous" setting either links w/the Auto Volume Control to turn on the square, or does so on it's own. Funny, as since I've never adjusted bass or treble, Previous would have no affect on Bass or Treble in a call.
