Default Accessing the phone book while the device is locked

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everybody!
I'm using IT policies to control the behaviour of the devices in our company.
The point is that we force the lock of the device after x minutes.
The users can make call while the device is locked, but they cannot access the phone book.
Does anybody have an idea of how can I enable this?

Thanks a lot!

Guillermo

Welcome to the forums!

I don't believe there is a way to change this. I believe this was designed this way. Think of it this way, If you lost your BlackBerry and someone found it, they would be able to access all of your contacts. It is the security of the device.

Could be, but I think that may be it could be managed, since there is the possibility, as in my case, that I want to protect the information stored in the device, the e-mail access but no the phone itself.

Thanks!

Surprise they let you do this. We don't allow it. For us, the BlackBerry has to be unlock inorder to make a phone call.

I thought the blackberry can only receive calls when it is locked; not making calls when it is locked. interesting.

Yes, in fact you have two different policies to control this. One of them is about Bluethoot, and the other one is just about making calls.
The point is that, as I can see, i don't know exactly how the enable the access to the address book.

Thanks!

You cannot access any applications while the device is locked - including the address book.

My 8320 is not connected to a BES, but I can set it so that when it is locked I can still access the addressbook and use it to make calls, but I cannot access anything other than names and phone numbers. Under Content Protection (in the security settings of the device) there is an option to include (or not include) the addressbook. If I choose to not include it when the device locks down I can still access it. If I choose to have it encrypted along with everything else, not only am I locked out of making calls or even searching the addressbook when it is locked, but caller ID reverts to phone number only. No names or contact photos are shown.

Is there no way that an IT policy can be set in similar ways? That seems odd if it is not possible.

Are you able to actually switch over to the Address Book application, or just call back names/numbers that are listed in the Call Log?

Even with the 'include address book' set to 'no' I can't switch to the Address Book.

juwaack68, I have the same problem as you.
I can see the recent calls, but not the entire address book.

Does anybody know if this is possible?

Thanks

If you start typing the names in your addressbook in the phone application while the device is locked, the device will list you the entries from your addressbook.
