Question Spam Blasts

Please Login to Remove!

Has anyone gotten spam emails to their BB at 3 minute intervals all through the night? I kept hearing my BB notify me of emails in the middle of the night for about two hours. I finally got up and found 40 emails all the same exact email.

Then this afternoon it happened again. I got mad and deleted my pc email account on the BB. I found that it is not my home email account because when I got back home none of the spams went to the home pc account, even though that was the account the BB was picking up - weird.

Anyone know about this problem. I even called my home internet provider thinking they could help me but I have found it is not their problem.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

awakekat, it is likely from a spoofed address. There is little way to avoid spam on the BB unless it is stopped at the server level.

I got spam blasted last night - 140+ of the same messages from the same address. Incredibly annoying.

Just get rid of blackberry email address or change it to something less easily guessable.

This attack was to my Charter.net account. I don't have my BB email address set up at all.

awakekat, maybe the spam didn't get to your PC email because it was snagged by a spam filter that is not in effect on your Blackberry. The email address that got spammed was not your carrier.blackberry.net address, correct?

Default Spam Blast

I am getting the same thing. Very annoying. I also have a charter account and receive the spam there once... then 150 or so times on the BB.

I get spam at the carrier.blackberry.net address. It would drive me completely crazy, but I happen to like my ringtone for e-mail, so it's only highly annoying.

Good luck, Charter told me that it's because I'm using a Blackberry and Spammers can tell because of where they get my address at. After I told charter to GF themselves I started creating some rules on the server via the webmail interface and that cleaned it up. That was about 3 years ago.

Question Thanks for the replies

I can honestly say that my opinion is that this spamming is going on the BB side of things. Ever since I have deleted my charter account on my BB I have not gotten the hordes of emails at all on my pc. I am tempted to start up the receiving of my charter email back on my BB, but I have the feeling the spamming will begin again. Somehow through the BB service it is happening. Over the past 48 hours I have not received a duplicated email, sure I get spam but not specifically timed every 3 minutes for hours and it being the same exact email.

Yo BlackBerry - What is going on??

As for the rules, I did set up a block domain name on my charter account, but 4 hours later they (the spammers) picked another address and started again every three minutes with a duplicated email, that is when I deleted the account off the BB. It was futile, it is a vicious loop I did not want to be in, so here again I point fingers at BB, something is not secure in their system... (again my opinion that I would like to be proven wrong and corrected... I wait for that day in anticipation...)

You know, that's a good point I missed somewhere....I'm not getting the hordes of email in my Charter account when I check it via my PC - I only see 1 message there.

But on my BB I see all the duplicated spam... How utterly irritating.

Exact same thing happening with my Charter email acct. One email when I check my desktop email at home, 50 of the same spam email delivered to my BB every 3 min. If I delete the email off of my bb and select delete from device and server it stops the cycle until another spam email hits my outlook inbox on my home computer, the process starts all over again.

Very annoying, and it is happening right now after about a 2 hour break.

Some have a solution?

Just for clarity on my part, when you guys are referring to "charter account," are you referring to "carrier.blackberry.net address"?

I have been having the same exact problems as others with 150+ copies of emails arriving in 3 minute intervals of the same message. I also have a charter.net email address that is forwarding to the BB and yet when I check on my PC I only see 1 copy of the email.

The emails are clearly coming throught the charter.net account. This is the third email that is doing this over the last 2 days.

Help... my hip is going numb from so many message alerts...
