Default Google Maps for 8310 and 8300 (Internal GPS/Bluetooth GPS)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I got the 8310 last week and the first thing I did was download google maps. To my horror, version 1.6.3 (the latest version) doesn't have "find location" or "find business" as an option, it has been replaced by "search" which seems useless to me (you cannot put in addresses - it won't be able to find anything!).

Can someone please verify that 1.6.2 has the "find location" and "find business" options? Also, does anybody have the download for version 1.6.2? I don't think its available via OTA, and I haven't been able to find it via searching.

Thanks everyone

-W

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I would encourage you to look at the new Windows Live Search for the BlackBerry. I have actually replaced Google Maps with this. That being said no, I don't know where 1.62 is located.

Google keeps older versions on its server. Just replace the download url with 1.62 where 1.63 appears and you'll get the older version.

1.6.1 was the last gmaps to not have just the search function.

Arg - I just found this out. Anybody got 1.6.1?

Having all sorts of problems. Got my hands on 1.6.2, but it only has "bluetooth GPS" as an option, despite the fact that I have internal GPS.

Ok figured it out. Spamdumpster was right - they do keep it on their server. Trick is finding the web address!

FOR BLACKBERRY 8310/88XX (ANY BLACKBERRY WITH INTERNAL GPS) - you must use the Google maps "8800" installation.

Version 1.6.1 (Last version with "Find Business" and "Find Location" as options - has been replaced with "Search" in version 1.6.2 and on)

http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.6....4+2&ver=v1.6.1

For different versions of Google maps for blackberries with INTERNAL GPS - just change the reference version to the one you're looking for. So if you're looking for version 1.6.0, the link would be:

http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.6....4+2&ver=v1.6.0

FOR BLACKBERRY 8300 (ANY BLACKBERRY WITH BLUETOOTH GPS PUCK) - you must use the Google maps "8300" installation.

http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.6....4+2&ver=v1.6.1

Same thing applies above - for different versions, just change the version reference in the link.

** You need to pay attention to whether you're downloading the 8800 or the 8300 version. The 8300 versions have "Bluetooth GPS" as an option, whereas the 8800 versions automatically use the internal GPS receiver.

*** For newbies - you have to download these with your blackberry browser. You cannot install these using your computer and desktop manager. Just point your BB browser to the appropriate versions, as described above.

Thanks for all your help guys! I love this place!!!

Nice sleuth work with the urls.

I'm not sure you're right about your complaint regarding 1.63, though.

I selected search and typed in an address and it worked fine.

Strange. I had version 1.6.3 on me last night when I was trying to find a restaurant and I had the address. It couldn't find it.

I just tried the same address using "find location" on version 1.6.1 and it worked. Woulda been helpful last night!!!! Had to make the conventional call - "hi, can you tell me how to get there from the t stop?".....

Thanks for your help - my blackberry is now equal (in terms of application functionality) to the one it replaced:

Have jivetalk, google maps (with gps working), mapquest navigator, bbweather, bb411 all loaded and customized. Feel like I can control the mars rover with this thing. I love being this connected..heh ;) oh, and I FINALLY HAVE A CAMERA!!!!!!!!!!

I'm with spamdumpster too. The "search" feature works fine for me. Not a thing wrong. Matter of fact I can tape the address anyway I want pretty much and it still comes out, with commas or no commas, or city, state and zip on a new line. You name it.

The only problem I have is it keeps telling me to turn bluetooth on for gps (I'm using a 8320). I have to keep resetting to get rid of that. Its getting annoying.

Default Google Maps revision history - AT&T BB Curve 8300

For the BlackBerry Curve 8300 is Google Maps 1.6.1 the version prior to Google Maps 2.0.1?

Is there a revision history listed somewhere?

I cannot get Google Maps 2.0.1 to work on my AT&T BlackBerry Curve 8300. It hangs my BB each time I click on the icon and I am forced to remove the battery to reset the BB.

Thank you.
