I am by no-means someone who knows the BBA code, but I am fairly sure the problem you state has nothing to do with BBA, as the program dosent seem to monitor/control your icons to "sync" its alert status, rather it seems to monitor the actual "incoming message"/call. I know I've had this problem in the past, and it eventually cleared itself up. Pretty sure that was before I was using BBA, too...

First, I'm using a VErizon 8830.

I received a call today that I ignored (pressed the ignore button). The little yellow missed call icon came up as well as the little envelope showing a message (the missed call message). I went in and opened and even deleted the missed call message and checked call logs, to make sure nothing was left behind. The envelope did go away but now I'm stuck with the missed call icon and a "1 message unread" indicator on the top line of the home screen. I've even done a battery pull...but the silly thing just stays there.

This did not happen before I installed BBAlerts. Anyone have any ideas, while I wait for Mel to respond? (I'm sure he'll respond quickly...just wondering if anyone else has seen somethign similar)

Thanks in advance!

I think it's just coincidence, as many people post about it, that don't run BB Alerts. Try changing themes temporarily to something else, and then switch it back. You might have to do a bit of fiddling before switching back but might depend on if you see message indicators on the theme you temporarily switched to or not.

As for the latest 1.60, I too did have that lockup on first boot, as does almost everyone it seems. After powering off, then on and setting permissions, it generally does not come back unless you reinstall or do an OS upgrade. However, once you know what to do, it's really no biggie. I don't even do battery pulls to fix it.

I like the idle indicator (yep, it's orange, BigMatty :D), but once in a while I noticed it doesn't blink. Clearing BBAlerts' alert log seems to clear it instantly although I'm tinkering a bit with some of the settings (like no logging) to see if it fixes that tiny issue up. Basically though, when I'm done checking msgs and whatnot, I'll clear the log anyways -- but I believe one didn't have to do that with 1.49.

Last time I tested out 1.60, I switched back to 1.49 -- not because of stability or functionality -- but I'm definitely going to stay with 1.60 this time.

The events are NOT being recorded in the alert log so it's not catching them.

Any ideas?
I was going to mention clearing the alert log, as that fixes up seeing red blinking lights instead of the configured colours; however I see that you mention the alert logs not working at all. I set all my permissions to Allow (i.e. none say Custom), I'd hazard a guess (no insult intended) that the reading of the call logs isn't set to Allow. In any event, it's never failed to log an alert for me in any version since May. It even logs emails that I have my Antair Anti-Spam filter set to move out of my inbox, hehe, which is how I can tell I have spam to check or not.

Re: alert logging and glitch - I will test and see what I come up with. I always disable alert pop-up, and logging, so I would not have noticed if either of these stop working, or were causing problems.

So far, on the couple 1.60 builds I've tried, the idle light dosent fail (stop, or go when its not supposed to)... so far its been perfect! (NOTE: I am avoiding 'Rainbow' at BByMels advisory that its not 100% functional yet.)

I really like how in addtion to just "flash" you have the option of "coverage" or "no coverage" indicator - he really went above and beyond on this feature! When you noticed it not working, it wasnt by chance a coverage issue was it?

Default Idle option

What is the true use of the Idle option in version 1.60?

I'm not sure I really grasp what truly defines the device as being "Idle".
Anyone shed any light on that little option?

Also, just a heads up on version 1.60...I just installed it on my AT&T Curve 8310 and the program installed then instantly went automatically to the security permissions and the phone was already set to ALLOW. I saved that (after not having to make any edit changed), did a battery pull to be clean and have not had an issue of lock up or hang with this version. I think it's coming along nicely.

I just would like to understand the Idle now that is an option.

Thanks!

Is there a newer OTA link for 1.6? I tried the one on the first page, but it says that there was a gateway error.

I see this latest rev. of 1.6 was released today (11/27). Has anyone installed this on a 8100 Pearl yet and had the same results as scottst?

I have been holding off on the most recent work in progress of 1.6 as I have my current one 1.6 (v.9/15/07) working flawlessly. I am running the latest Telkomsel Indonesia OS.

I'd like to update to get exposure to some of the new features, but don't want to lose my good working version.

What do you use the "idle" for?
I'm not getting the whole deal around what idle notification would do for you.

Can anyone explain it in detail?

the "idle light" is for those of us who have a touch of OCD and want to just be able to look at out phone and without touching it be able to know that there are no alerts. the light basically means that when you see it the phone is on and its happy and its in coverage and there are no alerts that you need to look at the phone for. some people im sure will not use this feature but for some of us who have used other phones who had this feature (my treo's did this) or those of us who might have a touch of OCD (like me - lol) and are constantly looking at our phones this is a GREAT feature

I tried it last night and it wasn't working either. The server might not be up, I'd try again later; as I've run into this before with the same link.

As for the idle light, although it's been answered -- for the most part it confirms that BBAlerts is running and active and ready to notify you of your messages. It also confirms that the application hasn't crashed (not that it ever has except when first installing).

Some of us are ana... er, I mean ocd about it. ;)

PS -- thanks Bbymel!

I have version 1.49 running on my TMO curve and am very happy with it. I know that earlier versions of 1.60 had issues but it's starting to sound like the latest release is more stable.

Can I ask what the chief differences are between 1.49 and 1.60? I tried to go to Handago's website to research it there, but they still only show version 1.49.

Thanks in advance!

I got it this morning. Thanks!

After playing with it for a few hours, I have some questions about it.

I enjoy the idle alert ALOT!, but it seems to have disabled some of the other features that were using the LED at the top of the phone. Before when I had my BT headset connected, it'd flash the coverage indicator blue, but it no longer does this. I even tried to turn the idle alert off, but that just turns the LED off (this is sitting in my house with coverage). Is there a setting that I am missing? or is this functionality lost. I suppose that the convienence of the blue light pails in comparison to the alerts...

Something else I haven't figured out yet, I have the Audio type set to Profile (in my Normal profile it's set to tone and Viberate). When I first get the notification that there is a message (text message for example) I get the tone then it viberates. But each sequencial alert is only a viberating alert, no tone. Is there somethign I'm missing in the settings?

Great program! I am a converted Treo 700P user and not having the repeating alerts was one of my dislikes for this phone. Thanks for taking the time to create, modify, and update it!

Prior to adding the IDLE feature, the use of BlackBerry Alerts would not allow your OS to propperly contol the LED all the time. What I mean by that is: Lets say you install BBA, start it, connect your Bluetooth headset. The blue LED would blink until BBA recieved "an alert" (phone call, email, etc.) and then it would flash its own indicator. Once that indidcator was cleared, "the BB's OS" would not take control back of the blue LED. Now, eventually you would trigger some system event that would make the blue, OS controlled, LED start again... but only unitl the next BBA alert. As you can see, this resulted in a "sometimes on" LED code. Due to this, many of us disabled any OS LED that could not be 100% consistent, which in turn meant "no coverage LED".

Now, I was never so much after the actual coverage indicator, I just wanted it for what the above posts say - to quickly verify I "had no new work". When I found out BByMel had not only done this ("Flash LED") but also added "Coverage Indicator" and "No Coverage Indicator" I was blown away! Way cool!!

Thanks to all that gave their explinations of the "idle" feature....that makes total sense to me now.

Guess I was closed minded on this feature because I can't see that I would ever want to use it myself, but I can understand why others would want to use it.

I do love this program, it gets better an better all the time!

I tried the new 1.6 on my 8100...all is well.

I have the OCD thing too but the idle notification is overkill for me. I keep my phone in a pouch so if nothing is blinking, I am good. I do not use the coverage or BT indicator either.

This was probably mentioned already, but in the alert logging sent messages from my blackberry show up as white entries and say:

Unknown Message, type was: 43 inbound: false from: unknown content type: text/plain body text:

This new version seems very, very solid.

I just installed 1.6 on my VZW 8130. I'll post if there are any problems.
