I had the same problem with the green screen, but I got ahold of someone in
Verizon that had me go to options-advanced options-applications-vz navigator click on bb key and go to edit permissions and change connections to allow and interactions to allow and it works. My version is 2.9.8 Built 140

I stopped by my local verizon story this afternoon because I would get error messages when using VZ Nav. The tech person had to call someone who eventually told him the "GPS network was down". I was pretty sure everything on my phone was correct. It worked earlier in the afternoon but not at all this evening.

Tried this also, unfortunately no go.....

Two of the choices on the interactions menu can not be changed however everything else is set to allow....still no go...

The funny part is no error message the green splash screen hangs around for up to three seconds before disappearing...

Tick tock I'll wait for verizon to call me back......

As other have stated the 2.8 version won't work on the 8830. You need 2.9.7 Build 157. With this version I was up and running this morning. The GPS network does appear to be down now.

Not entirely true! I am running 2.9.8 Build 140 and it works fine (other than the GPS outage). Worked most of the day until this afternoon and now it is intermittent, which I am guessing is due to the outage...

Where did you get the info that 2.9.8 will not work? I had it working early this afternoon on my 8830. It is the version available directly from my 8830 browser. It is not working now, but, I understand the entire VZNav system is down for 8830's currently.

Interesting, I tried that version this morning 2 or 3 times and it would show the splash screen and close each time. 2.9.7 worked first time. Others have stated the same problem in this thread.

You are right, that's what happened this morning to me too. BUT, later in the day it worked. (Until now, the system is down)

Initially, when I tried this remedy, I kept getting an error message "Could not process your request (2002)". Now, a couple of hours later VZNav seems to be working fine, pinpointing me at home. Coincidentally, just got a phone call from Verizon Data Support (only three hours after Ticket report) to suggest the above settings and to tell me that they were having a nationwide outage that was currently being fixed. Obviously 2.9.8 does work on the 8830 as long as the settings are correct and the network is up an running.
Hope this helps the rest of you. Sometimes patience does endure!

Anyone out there using VZNav on their 8830 know how to keep the back light on while driving? I have the unit mounted on my windshield and wanted to see my progress as I drive. The light turns off after 2 minutes (the max settings in options on the phone)

Great question, I wondered that myself.

There is a great app called BBLight. You should be able to find it here http://www.blackberryforums.com/afte...es-thread.html
Or just do a search for "BBLight"

There is a setting inside it that allows for you to turn the back light on for as long as you need it, or as long as you have external power. Works great!

I have three verizon reps working on it..... Honestly they don't know what is going on either....

Anyone having this issue should call as of 9am this morning they had no known issues and no open tickets...

Since then they have been scrambling.....I'm at level 3.......

I did this just now and it loaded fine. It won't run though as I've not activated it on my phone just yet. I find it very frustrating that after all this wait, BB owners do not have the option of using this application on a 24-hour pay per use basis. I typically use this for a weekend trip or something similar and don't need it all the time. I wish they'd just unlock the GPS and get on with it.

Hmmm. Icalled VZ in order to get my phone (8830) provisioned for VZ Navigator and wa stold by the CS rep that its not compatible with my phone...Huh?

Addendum: Got a call from Technical Services indicating that the CS rep was wrong and that it was indeed available for the 8830, and that she would add it to my account...Sheesh! You would think they would all be on the same page..
