My bad the first thing is to delete the Vendor file then you should see the normal verizon themes.

OK...that went about 4 feet above my head...I have no idea what an alx file is...all I want is to use the newer Telus software on my Verizon device and still see the VZW interface instead of that fugly Telus GUI...
I will wait for VZW to release the software I guess.

I went through the process. You should have the Verizon theme available by default once you get the OS on there.

So I just went to enable National Broadband Access on my account (ability to tether) since the misses is taking me on a vacation this weekend but theres stuff going on at work)... After about a 5 minute wait the sales rep transfers me to tech support, he asks a few questions than informs me that if I'm not on BES the unlimited data plan is now $29.95/month. Cool, however, tethering is now $30 instead of $15.. haha, still getting there money, however if you dont connect your laptop through your phone call up and make sure they change things over accordingly. While I was talking to him I asked him about the whole navigator thing. His response was this...
When the phone was release I myself was wondering why the GPS was disabled, specially when other manufacturers are using it. Apparently Verizon feels this is a security issue... If someone were to get ahold of your BB, and get its GPS coordinates, they could track your every move (or your phones rather). Apparenty his response is that the other carriers arent viewing this as big as a security problem as Verizon does.
So basically the only option will be VZW Navigator, and he said he has no clue when its gonna be available for the 8830, he said he thinks it should be anyday now since its available on the Pearl... Thats all for now...

but yet i can pay verizon to track any cellphone i give to a child. .... .... no the reason its disabled is so they dont loose 9.99 a month for vznav, and i think 9.99 for their parent / child tracking thing.
anything else is pure bs.
it can be vz/att/tmo/o2/etc any carrier your phone is as secure as the stuff you put on it. not what features a mfg put into it.

Got it - so just to clarify at the risk of sounding completely incompetent - I install the Telus OS 4.2.2.176 on my VZW 8830 & without doing anything else, the Telus software will be the default VZW theme...
Will this be any different from VZW's 4.2.2.176 software when released on 11-20-2007?
Thx all...

Yes on the theme. As for .176 on 11/20, I have yet to see anything that would lead my to believe that date, or the software version. We have a post that "it's official", without any link to anything official. We also have many past "it's official" posts of dates that have come and gone.
Don't be disappointed if we're here in a month and nothing has changed.
I really want VZNav to work. For now, the hit rate is about 50% for me. I turn it on, and cross my fingers....

Excellent! Am downloading Telus 4.2.2.176 right now.
So basically -
Install the Telus OS on the computer,
Delete vendor.xml,
Crank up Desktop Manager,
Update device software,
All done?
Also, I've heard that 4.2.2.176 + VZNav is kinda buggy - is this due to .176 or VZNav? Thx...just wondering if VZW will tweak .176 to work better with VZNav as opposed to the Telus .176...

The tethering can still be added for $15, if you would like me to make the change on your account feel free to PM me and I will take care of it personally.

if verizon releases a .176 their version is gonna be the same os as telus, if their version is not .176 then it might have the major bugs that exit in the 176 fixed.
blackberry os's dont matter which carrier they come from, their universal. versions mean things. some fix stuff, other break stuff, if it is an os for that model then it will work, telus, sprint, cant think of other cdma carriers, but their all the same.

Has anyone been able to use VZnav at all today or yesterday? Seems totally dead and throwing errors now whenever GPS functionality is accessed.

If you go to the Verizon wireless testman site it now shows the bb8830 with vz navigator capabilities, it must be coming soon.

Spot on perfect twice today. Running as advertised. As a former TeleNav user, VZNav blows that application away. Still bitter to have to pay $10. per month, but happy with the quality of the software.

Anyone know if you can still add vznav to your phone, right now it doesn't seem to be an option on verizon's website for my 8830.

I did too, but only later in the day. Again, a device reboot did not immediately fix it. Have you been using it a lot? Are you never getting error 15, saying GPS is not available or something like that? Thanks.
