hi there - am looking to take the plunge to the 8130 from my trusty old 8703e on verizon. i understand there are a few bugs, nothing major, but bugs nonetheless. ive been searching around and have had trouble coming up with somewhat of a conclusive list - can those who have the 8130 detail what bugs/issues they are running into? just want to know if its worth the switch! thanks!

-App Loader on the BB Desktop isnt working yet. (waiting on drivers/update)

-Some Apps arent yet compatible with the 8130

-The Map software wasnt working (think its fixed now)

-Verizon Tech support has yet to be trained on the Pearl so they are no help if you call

thanks - when you are talking about map software do you mean the vz navigator? i heard on some it wasn't working properly but supposedly had been fixed....

but what you're essentially saying is that the pearl itself doesn't have bugs really, it's more of the 3rd party software that's (supposed to be) compatible with it that's the issue?

thanks for your help

I agree. The few if any "bugs" I've had are with 3rd party apps. New users to the BB platform seem to be expressing more "annoyances" due to the fact they haven't yet learned their way around the OS. This seems to be what I'm seeing more so than bugs. But being you are coming from the 8703e, I don't think you'll have much of a problem.

Oh and as far as maps go, I've been using the live app from MS and it's been sweet. Google maps also works. I can't speak for Navigator as I don't subscribe to it.

What link did you use to get Google maps? I have tried installing google maps twice now and I am getting an error that says Error starting gmaps.

See here for a listing from 8130 owners...

HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - Official BlackBerry Pearl 8130 Problems and Issues Thread

Ones I've seen:

Backlight is flaky, even if you turn off dimming it still dims, even when ambient light doesn't change

DM software 4.3 released w/it has issues and the Roxio music manager is unstable

Some lock-ups and wierd behavior requiring battery pull

Memory leaks with VZNav

The forum will condense the above url, so make sure you are entering the entire and complete url. Right click, select copy link and then paste into an email you can send to your bb.

Thanks! Worked perfectly. Are any of you having trouble working with the BB desktop manager? I loaded it onto my PC and am using vista but even when I connect my BB through the USB nothing is registering. I have un-installed and re-installed twice now.

I had the same problem with Google Maps. My question is: if I follow the above link and load the application will it create a new icon on the Main screen or will it just correct the existing Google Maps icon? If it adds a new one, how doe you remove the old one?

Thanks.

It should just replace the old icon with the new icon and then you can open it. Thats what it did on my phone. If not go into your options screen, and go to your applications. Once it builds your applications delete the Google maps app and try installing it again. You shouldn't have to do this but thats what I tried before I got this new link.

I am running under XP and the BB desktop manager works with no issues.

I have NEVER had a BB before. My 8130 should be here tomorrow. Reading about all the problems is a little scary. This forum will probably become my new best friend.
