Here's the deal:

Just recently, they changed the pricing plans, here are the new ones:

For $29.99 you do get unlimited data and web per month, not 10MB and it's not capped. This is for BIS only, no BES.

For $44.99, you get unlimited BES and BIS, and it's not capped.

The old $24.99 plan was capped at 10MB. yes, MEG.

That's straight from VZW CS.

See my last post.... I asked her specifically about it being capped and she said no. The difference is BIS vs BES service.

You are correct. the difference is BIS and BES. BIS is plenty enough for me. I am glad they went down on the pricing. I am sure they are trying to compete with other carriers. I have the 29.99 plan..

unfortunately, they're still only polling via BIS every 15-20 minutes on VZW.

same here... thought it was a bad install at first, but after 3 reinstalls realized it's VZW playing games again.

what do you mean gresch. Are you saying that your email is not forwarded right away to your device. I get mine as soon as they are sent. I get them on my pearl before it even goes to my mac.

as far as i know google maps is being updated so it will work on the 8130. It needs a software update in order to work. Old version of google maps work but newer versions do not.

yup, it has to do with how your ISP has their IMAP and persistent connection settings on the SMTP servers. My ISP (lunarpages) doesn't support persistent connections so i'm stuck on the 15 minute polling system with BIS on my personal BBerry (new pearl)

On my work BES bberry (8800) I get email instantaneously. (and not, it's not because I run the IT department either ;))

I own my last name as a domain (and it's a 4 letter domain too!), so I"m at the mercy of an ISP that hosts my domain... I guess I could move to a bigger ISP like NetSol, but it costs more and has less features than where I am now... it's all a tradeoff ;)

I don't think the GPS works other then with VZ Nav, but you should be able to run Google Maps.

1. I was able to download and run Google Maps fine using this link from the Blackberry Browser:
http://google.com/gmm/apps/v1.6.4/L1...00_v4_1_L1.jad

2. At first I had the problem sending/receiving the MMS messages from my Pearl. I had to call Verzion and have them change a feature from "250 sms/mms messages non-camera phone" to "250 sms/mms messages with camera phone." After that, I was able to receive them, but still couldn't send them. Finally, they did something else (not sure what), then they had me take the battery out and do *228, option 1 again, and it now works fine.

As for the price plan discussing... Please re-read post #61 of this thread for more details...

But there are 3 plans.

$24.99 using Verizon's WIRELESS SYNC feature... its got a 10MB per month limit... yes $10 Meg!!! this is NOT a BIS plan... as for why someone would choose this over the $29.99 BIS plan.. see Verizon's Wireless sync web page -> Verizon Wireless Sync | WSYNC.COM for what it does.... it syncs calendar/contacts too..

the $29.99 Email and web for blackberry... this is the BIS plan... its called "unlimited" for data... does email and web, but no calendar/contact sync.
Note: this plan used to be $44.99 also, its price was reduced Nov 1.

the $44.99 Unlimited data for blackberry enterprise plan... this is the plan if you are using a BES.. its also called "unlimited" for data...

BUT no matter what the reps verbally tell you... if you read the FINE PRINT for the terms of service on ANY of Verizon's "Unlimited Data" plans.. you'll see a 5gig cap is stated! so Unlimited is NOT unlimited...

Now, as to why the BES plan is $15 more than the BIS plan...

BIS and BES are NOT the same.

If you want to use a Blackberry Enterprise Server aka BES.. you need to use the BES Data plan... BES Does more than just two way mail... so that could justify the extra $15 per month over the BIS plan.

I think the $24.99 Vzn Wireless synch plan does not use the BB server, so it's not truly push email. The BIS/BES should use BB servers for email (not data of course, that uses EVDO). All of the carriers charge about $10 more for BES than they do for BES. Tmob charges $20/$30 for example. And if they say "unlimited" it should be just that, you can refuse to pay if you go over some smallprint limit no matter what they try to do to you.

yes it DID use the BIS server, it's just the old plan where you got 10MB for $24.99. I was on that plan until yesterday when i got the new pearl and they changed my plan. The key word is DID.

when you say "works fine", how long does it take an email to reach your bberry? i spoke with bberry this morning (their tech support and not vzw's) and they told me that they have a "notify agreement" with gmail and yahoo that bberry's system gets "notified" when there's an email waiting and it goes and gets it, as opposed to polling every 15 minutes or so, which is what they do for ISP's where they don't have a "notify agreement".

I have a quick question about pricing. I called CS to order and they told me the pricing is $299.99 + $50 MIR. I asked about the addittional $100 discount posted on the website and they said that is only for NEW customers. Is this true? Have any current VZW customers upgraded and gotten both the $50 MIR AND the $100 discount?

that's strange...

I got the phone for free:

$299
- $100 for new every 2
- $100 for ordering online
- $50 mail in rebate
- $50 credit because the CSR was in a good mood and credited it to me for the trouble's that BBerry caused with the IMAP idle issues earlier this year.

So, it's odd that you don't qualify.

I've got a weird problem that just popped up recently on my VZW 8130.

When I first got my Pearl...everything was working great. Last night, I noticed that the 1x was all that showed up on my screen instead of the 1xEV that previously did. This results in me not being able to send/receive email or browse the web. Any idea why a phone would do this all of the sudden? I have checked my account and I've got the data plan and everything, so it's not that I'm not provisioned to use it.
