Default Buying unlocked BB/Unlock codes

Please Login to Remove!

I have been browsing the threads here and I am still a little hesitant.

I am looking at the possible purchase of a used AT&T BB Curve that is unlocked. I have been a TMO subscriber for almost 2 years. Is there a downside in doing this?

My 8700g is currently locked. I have the original box and manuals. Would the unlock code appear anywhere in my documentation?

Other than a 3rd party unlock source or from TMO directly is there any other way to get the unlock codes?

I am planning on a trip to Baja, Mexico in December and I understand it would be wise to UNLOCK my phone.

Looking from some help from people smarter than I.

Thanks!!!

The unlock code is not found anywhere in the documentation.
There is no downside to using an unlocked AT&T Curve on T-Mobile, but you can not change the branding (screens that come up)...

Why do you want to unlock a BB to go to Mexico?

I was told I would get broader/better coverage using an unlocked BB traveling in Mexico. I am heading to Cabo San Lucas. I have never been there with a Blackberry.

Perhaps a better question would be, other than changing carriers without changing equipment, what are the benefits of unlocking a phone?

Thanks for the quick reply!!

OH, I know one BB user around here who went to Cabo about a month ago, and we have never heard from him again.

Be careful.

I have *never* heard of getting better coverage when using an unlocked BB. Unless you are switching carriers, in which case your e-mail won't work.

There are no other benefits.
