Default About to Upgrade - Preparations

Please Login to Remove!

Just about to upgrade from v4.0.6 to v.4.1.4 now and was wondering what everyone did in preparation for upgrades to their BES Servers?

I've just taken an acronis image of the box so should be able to plonk that back on if all goes wrong.

I plan to backup the reg and logs to another box and then empty out the log folders. I alway have the problem of the besadmin service account password being undocumented. I plan on resetting this and then changing the credentials for all the BES Server services. Then double check everything is still working.

Next step will be to logon as the besadmin service account, clear Transaction logs(problem i had with test upgrade) and start the actual upgrade. Reboot, check services running and then test a BB.

Can anyone see any problems with that plan or have any recommendations for what else to do?

Cheers,

One question I forgot to add, I ran through the upgrade on a test box and came to the above screen. Now we only activate over wireless so I assume this box is ticked.

Any ideas on what port is needed and also what login details are needed? BESadmin account again? Also any idea for the ETP Messages address?

Cheers,

I would have a paper record of SRP ID & Auth Key & CALS - for the 'worst case scenario...'

RIM has a pretty decent recommendation: Best practices for installing a BlackBerry Enterprise Server service pack ... even though you're upgrading versions and not just applying a service pack.

Is your SQL database local to the BES or remote? If remote, make sure your BESAdmin account (if using Windows Auth) or whatever sql account you're using has enough permissions (adding sysadmin role during the upgrade will take care of that).

SQL is local at the moment. May well spilt that at a later date though.

Cheers all for the recommendations so far.

The screenshot you uploaded is for WLAN settings only, i.e. WIFI, you can leave all this unchecked unless you use WIFI devices which I am guessing you don't.

I also left out the new MDS piece and my 4 upgrades went flawlessly. You can always add it back in later if you need it.

ah cool, I thought as much. It just managed to confuse me at the time.

Presumably once upgraded you can always go through the install again and select the additional settings?
