Default SQL DB ?- Knife Edge Cutover

Please Login to Remove!

Ok here's the deal:

Our current BES is version 4.1.4 for Exchange, 170 users, BESmgmt db is local using SQL Express 2005

I want to cut over to a new BES and a remote SQL server at the same time.

Here's how I'm planning on doing it:

1. Shut down BES services on Old BES
2. Backup BESmgmt database using BlackberryDBbackup.exe
3. Restore DB using BlackberryDBRestore.exe on new remote SQL 2005 server
4. Install Bes 4.1.4 on NEW BES (point to remote SQL server during setup)
5. Start Services and test thoroughly.

Does this sound about right? What settings will I need to re-create because they are not in the Besmgmt database?

Thanks for any help.

That will work ... here are some more details on the procedure from RIM on how to move MSDE to other remote SQL server ... How to move from an MSDE database to a Microsoft SQL Server database ... also ... Increase mail agent limitation on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server when moving from MSDE to SQL Server

How to perform a knife-edge cutover for BlackBerry Enterprise Server software versions 4.0 and 4.1

Print out the install guides too for reference when doing the install; always helps to make sure you dont miss the little stuff ... and when doing a migration little stuff always seems to slip through.

Thanks for the info. Cut over went fairly well. Ran into two issues with the database which were:

1. Since the computer name changed I could not get MDS to start. Had to go into the Besmgmt database and change two fields under the MDSconfig table.

2. The SQL server that we migrated to was giving us issues due to the case sensivity of the db name. Ended up using the dbcreate.exe tool and got around that.

Our NumAgent reg key was already set to 5... possibly because we were coming from sql express and not msde?
