fastest internet phone
Please Login to Remove!
ok so im a little ignorant about some topics maybe you can clear them up for me?
first off...whats the fastest internet available on a phone...i believe mine uses the edge network? i think i heard of 3g?
second...which blackberry is the fastest? and is there any phone that is faster then it?
i currently have the 7130c
i need to load pages as fast as possible for work...it will literally mean the difference between me getting a job or losing it. and my phone simply isnt cutting it.
i will sacrifice everything else just to have the fastest browser available?
help?
thanks

high, you will notice a world of differnce if you moved from your 7130 to an ATT 8800 or 8300. They are much much faster.
Similarly, if you are willing to change carriers, EVDO is faster on Verizon (I am told, I have not used).
But I do think you will be quite surprised with the speeds of the above BBs compared to your 7130, without even leaving your carrier.

It's not the phone that's necessarily fast...it's the service that powers it. Currently, Verizon and Sprint have the fastest broadband internet, EVDO Rev. A...no doubt someone else will come up with a faster alternative one of these days. Blackberry does make devices that use it. But if you have equivalent technology phones (i.e. an 8830 on Verizon and an 8300 on AT&T), the speed of the network should give the 8830 an advantage.

Until the the 8707v is out (3G support), you're stuck with a choice between EDGE (barely faster than dial-up) and EVDO (actual broadband speeds).
You get EDGE with GSM providers like AT&T or T-Mobile and EVDO with CDMA providers like Sprint or Verizon.

I moved from a 7290 to a Pearl, and it made a LOT of difference. (7290 was on GPRS as my Pearl gets EDGE) The new Blackberries are really speedy.

if i get a newer model...it will still be edge but some are saying a bit faster?
3g is supposedly the fastest? but no blackberry supports it yet?
8707v? is suppose to come out?
did i get that right?
if so....when will this 3g phone come out...will it be comprable to the edvo of sprint and verizon?

Don't be counting your 3Gs before they hatch, there are no plans just yet.
There will even be WiFi before 3G, but WiFi only available... where it is available.
Your best choices are EVDO (fastest) on Sprint and Verizon [8830] or EDGE on AT&T [8800, 8300, 8700] and TMo [8800 or 8700].
Yes, a newer model 8800 or 8300 on AT&T's EDGE network, will be faster than you current 7130. I think I said that in the first post?

AT&T does have a 3G network, so once a 3G BlackBerry (8707v) is out, using it shouldn't be a problem.

For the user's immediate plans, the 3G BB is stil not on the front burner, though, right? I know there is a 3G network, but not a current BB in the US with 3G.

I missed the part where they only sell them in the EU right now. Still, I've seen them on eBay, so it's still an option if he really wanted one.

Here is the skinny on speed:
Data rates are dependent on a number of factors such as the connection, device processor, device memory, distance tot he tower, tower congestion, etc. Voice always has priority over data.
EDGE speeds are typically 50-125 kbps woth a max of 236 or 300 kbps on modified towers.
EVDO typically runs 400-800 kbps with a max of about 1.2 mbps on Rev 0 and 3.1 mbps on Rev A.
3G theoretically can go to 14 mbps, but there is nothing to support that yet. Typical 3G speeds are similar to EVDO.
All of this being said, don't look for great leaps in speed on a BB or any other device for that matter. About all you will see on a BB is some increase in the browser load and refresh, but many sites are not set up for mobile viewing and the BB doesn't have the horsepower or real estate to go real fast. Email is push so it will be what it is.

Assuming you are in Europe, you would have 3G.
Europe and the U.S. use different frequencies for 3G data. A European UMTS device is not going to access 3G in the U.S. unless it specifically has 3G on the U.S. bands.

On CDMA, yes. On GSM, no.
Edited to add: I believe by "phone" you're referring to a BlackBerry, no?

Keep in mind that AT&T also doesn't offer 3g capability everywhere...so even if your phone is 3g-capable, it still will end up using the older (i.e. slower) system until AT&T rolls 3g out nationwide.

Plenty of 3G GSM phones, but no Blackberries.
Well I consider the Sprint/Verizon EVDO 3G speed. They have Blackberries with EVDO speeds which are good.
AT&T, no

If you are so dependent on loading web pages fast, then I suggest you go with a laptop and a wireless datacard and/or a WiFi connection at your local Starbucks. You aren't going to get things that fast on a cellular device, EVDO or 3G. It just doesn't have the horsepower to do so.

If your looking for the fastest blackberry internet right now. You have to get the 8830 on either Verizon or Sprint. I have an 8703e from sprint and it's twice as fast as my 8700g was from T-Mobile. There are faster 3g phones out there but no blackberry's as of now. But the 8830 on 1xEV-DO should be one of the fastest out there in the U.S right now.
