Default AIM not working on Sprint 8830

Please Login to Remove!

Has anyone found out why AIM isn't working on the 8830?

I have a feeling it's just launched prematurely.

What are your thoughts?

That's funny, it didn't work for me either, at first. The BB browser told me to go to the web (on a PC), once you got to the web page and connected my BB via USB cable, then it said that it wasn't set up or something along those lines....

I just tried it again to post the exact message the BB page said, the only thing is AIM on the BB is actually working now. Maybe it was a service books thing?

they are using the aim on www.blackberry.com/aim

it will not work on any carrier except for Sprint.

if you want aim on your 8830 for vzw, your best bet is forking over $20 for Jivetalk. its worth every penny. There is a 30 day trial. beejive :: JiveTalk mobile messaging

The only free option is Ramble, and its garbage. Most people cant get it to work on their 8830. its not stable, and is no longer supported.

Oh almost forgot....

Is there a way to send all your buddy list off of your computer to your BB? Cause adding them one by one would just suck.

It didn't start working for me until I registered my phone number with AIM. After that, along with moving my buddy list to the "Mobile Users" group, it is working fine.

Would this be the same for the Curve? Does it use SMS text messaging for each IM?

i just got the sprint 8830 and AIM works great. I think its free.
I am going overseas and I am counting on using primarily data to keep intouch.
I think AIM is included in the unlimited data. I hope its not considered and SMS---- if it is EEK!

Free? Where did you find that? Sprint's charging $2.99/month for AIM according to their webstie, which I refuse to pay. AIM is free and I will never pay anyone for it! Do you have the AIM client or you go to aim 'dot' com (which is what I'm planning to do and have always done)?

can I do that on the phone? is it just a flat 2.99 per month or is it per message-- Ithought it was included in the Data plan.

Default Buddy list trouble

I am using AIM on my 8830, and it has the same problem it had on my 7130e...it only has like 30 of my buddies!

Anyone know how to get all of your buddies up?

Rim's AIM client only can have 30 buddies. You are better off to get beehive's jivetalk if you want more than 30 buddies on AIM.

I just downloaded AIM from the link above and I can't get it to work. When I sign in it just stalls and it says "Contacting AIM Service" with the stupid beach ball spinning and spinning, nothing happens. I even gave it time, like 5 mins to see if it was just a first-time log in configuration stuff but it just stays the same. Anyone knows why and the solution to this? I just don't want to pay for JiveTalk when Sprint gives aim for free with the data plan.

Thanks in advance!
