Default Why the heck is there no GPS on the Curve?

Please Login to Remove!

I have both the Curve and the 8800 and I am trying to decide which one I am going to use...I might keep the other as a backup phone though. The thing that is bugging me is the lack of GPS in the Curve. If it just had that one feature the choice would be easy!

Does anyone believe that maybe the device has this ability "hidden" like on some other Blackberry models? If so, could it be accessed with a little work?

It's not hidden on the 8300, it's just not there. The new model 8310, released in Germany, has GPS. The 8320 has WiFi. No model has both. There was some speculation that the "Popa Bear" model would indeed have both but alas, it now looks like the 8320 is the Popa Bear. They say there simply isn't room in the Curve's small case to include both WiFi and GPS modules.

Dangit! I hope they make a Curve for the US that has GPS...maybe with T-Mobile. That would be perfect. I might have to stick with the 8800 for now though. This makes a great phone otherwise though...I love the look of it.

Buy yourself the key chain Freedom mini GPS receiver (89 bucks) and use Google Maps for free. It works well. If you want to spend more money go for the Wayfairer 7 software---it gives voice directions. Either way you save the monthly fees that the phone companies would charge you for GPS.

Yep, or at least that's the scuttlebutt. The 88xx has enough room to fit GPS and WiFi. The diminutive Curve probably won't ever get both unless they find a new miniture combo GPS/WiFi module.:D

According to BG it's impossible to have a GPS and a Wifi on a bb because it wont fit.
