Default SP4 Screwed My BES!!!!!

Please Login to Remove!

Just loade SP4 on one on my servers at its gone tits up!

The install seed to go OK, only issues was arround the MDS databases in that I had to create new instances. Any way rebooted server and tried to move a test user and it told me the server is not running.

From the Domino Console I issue

Load BES

The normal messages appear until BlackBerry Mailbox Agent for Lotus Domino Started, however after that it says:

Connection attempt with localhost failed
Connection attempt with localhost failed

Connection with localhost lost
Shutting down Performance Monitoting and SNMP
BlackBerry Mailbox Agent for Lotus Domino shutdown complete

Can anyone suggest where I can start if fault finding?

Oh mate, not good. I jumped straight on the thread when I saw the title and your name next to it, and then I read the word 'Domino' and realised I'd be no good to you!

At least I'm bumping the thread for attention!

I admit Exchange is my world ... however, is the BES set to run as Local System or as a user account? Only time I've seen this error in Domino world is with a problem with the service account running the BES.

What do the MAGT logs say? Bump it up to debug if need be and restart the task.

Have a look at your SQL settings, we had a same error message on a SP2 server back then it was the sql configuration that was gone....

Checked the SQL dB configuration, ran the "Test SQL Server Connection" and it was successful

Looking at the logs there is

[BIPP] Connection failed
Connection attempt with localhost failed
Starting shutdown of BlackBerry Enterprise Server

Does this mean anything to anyone?

Trying the good old reinstall and when it gets to the MDS Services dB settings its pre populated with another MDS dB name rather than the one already created on the SQL Server.

Its greyed out and cannot be changed, could this be causing my problems?

Slowly losing the will to live!

Is there away to install BES without upgrading any dB's? I'm trying to put SP3 back on and again when it comes to MDS Service dB Settings its failing with an

"DB upgrade failed. Error executing an SQL statement"

I've had a look in the installer log but as I know squat about SQL its all greek to me!

Did you backup the database before upgraded to sp4? If so you could get the full install for SP3 if you have a t-support contract and just attach the backup db.

Unfortanetly I don't know Domino or SQL much either to help more.

"The MDSS and MDSS_Dis databases already exist. "

If i delete these dB's what will happen to the other servers that are already using MDS?

Is there a way to get the 4.1.3 Full Install without T-Support?

I installed SP4 on a test server and didnt have a problem.

No there is no way to downgrade / get the full version without tsupport. However, there is a way you can revert back.

If it is indeed the sql database, RUN the SP4 setup again and see what happens.--Reboot from NT level first before beginning this again and turn all BB and Domino Services to manual--this may work and upgrade the database / bad install...it does happen.

If its not the sql db and you want to revert back, there are 2 files in the Lotus\domino folder you can replace if you have the SP3 Files..I have Sp2 so I can send you that if you want.

what i read on SP4 is that, it DOES UPGRADE BES DB schema and structure, so no going back to SP3 in your current situation,
your best bet is to uninstall BES from problem server, restore your DB from backup before SP4 install and then reinstall BES 4.1SP3

It had a problem upgrading the db as from what i read above, so it did not upgrade it or did not finish it. I would try the re-install. if that doesnt work, you can use souncool's suggestion as the next step
