Default installing

What is involved in switching the keypad? Do you have to take the whole phone apart?

Hmmm $79.99 for the full housing? Damn...I would really like to turn my phone black..... Considering i paid 99.99 for the phone, thats 80% of the cost!

Decisions, decisions...

Actually it is 79.99 for the full housing minus the keypad, and an aditional 5.99 for the kepad. So your talking about 86% of your cost.

The buttons are your connivance key and volume keys that go in the side rails I believe.

That is strange. I have the original color keypad (which looks black to me) on my Cingular 8800 and I have no problem at all reading the keys in the dark. Am I missing something here?

BTW, thanks for that link. The company has some really cool stuff I have not seen anywhere else.

The OP is refering to replacing the VZW 8830 silver keypad with a black one. Your 8800 keypad is indeed already black.

Good to hear! So, how does it look with a black pad? What color is the backlighting behind the keys, still blue or is it now white? Any tips on the swap? I just ordered it today. I've had LG's, Motos and Samsungs apart before.

I just placed my order for 2 black keypads (figure at that price, mine as well get an extra one just in case). I've already replaced the blue housing from cingular and cannot wait to get rid of the blue keypad. FINALLY!!! Thank you, allen2003.

I just bought one keypad and a black crystal case from eBay. I figure its cheaper and just wait until the housing goes cheaper somewhere else. How difficult is it to take the phone apart? I saw the sticky and it doesnt look too bad. Ive taken Razrs and v600's apart before so Im hoping this wont be that bad to change the keypad. Are the lit up numbers still blue or are they white?

Default Beware!

I just clicked on the vendor's link noted in the start of this thread.

I don't know if I did something strange but when attempting to place an order, it defaulted to the previous customer's mailing address. In fact, if you click on "show all orders" you can see who ordered what. This includes names and addresses.

I may not be that big a deal to some but I know I do not want my personal information displayed for future customers to see! In the era of identiy theft, I don't want any information displayed for the world to see.

I think that the OP may have just posted their link with their info. I closed the browser and just went to the cnn site and everything went away.

The Cingular 8800 is actually a very dark blue. Put it in direct light and move it around, you'll see the blue... Also compare it next to a Sprint 8830 (which is indeed black), that helps too.

If someone wouldnt mind doing a "DIY" with pics that would be nice . I like mine thus far with the silver and also have the BSE on it, so I won't change it any time soon.. until I get too many scratches on it.
