Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster and first review.
I ordered this product and it works great on a Curve.
Their website is duosim.com
Some background:
Device: Locked to Rogers
SIM Cards being used: both with Rogers; one from work (Data only), one voice only
Method I used: Cut SIM Cards
Product Ordered:
X2
Date Ordered Aug21 Received Sep5
I was tired of switching between SIM cards everytime work started/ended so with the recommendation of this thread, I decided to order this product as it was a perfect solution.
As you can see, I received this order promptly considering it was coming from Malaysia.
The install is pretty straight forward. Cut both SIMs (using the sticker cutting guide provided), place them into the adapter (the SIM slots are labeled SIM1 and 2), place the lid over the adapter and then insert into device. Use the lid with the shorter edges. You will see once you receive the product. Also, the Curve's SIM lid will not lock shut. This is fine. Just close it as much as you can. Works just fine for me.
Tips:
-I recommend good scissors since you might have to do some trimming after the initial cut in order for the SIM to fit. Or you can buy the cutter that they sell if you are not comfortable using scissors.
-You might want to label the top of each SIM with a Sharpie so that you know which one is which just incase you have to use them separately again (using the adapters provided).
After the bootup, it will add an icon that looks like a SIM Card named "DUAL SIM CARD". At the top where your service provider is normally shown, it will now show SIM1 or SIM2 (whichever one is activated at the time)
There are 3 options once you click on it. SIM1, SIM2 and Set (settings).
Under Set, you will find:
Edit 1; 2 - to distinguish each SIM with a phone number. I didnt use this since only one of my SIMs is for voice. (this field is numerical only) :(
Sw On; Off - to Enable/Disable automatic switching between SIMs
Set Switch Time>brings up a menu from 2-30minutes to choose the increments where you want the automatic switching to occur
English; Chinese - language
Display Mode 1; 2 - not sure what this does but either had no obvious effect on my BB. In this part of the instructions, the English is not very concise. Here's what it says:
8. Choose "Display mode 1", enter into the showing model 1. It can be suitable for the ordinary showing model mobiles. Choose "Display mode 2", it can be suitable for the mobile phones which haven't the showing model function. And it can set the model automatically for you.
So I keep this setting at 2 since it seems like it is also an "Auto" setting.
That's pretty much it! Great product and great service.
I think this would also work on an unlocked Curve with SIMs from 2 different service providers.
Note: I tested this on an 8700r and it didnt fit into that SIM card slot. It was about a mm too thick and it's not flexible like a SIM card either. So the cutting method using the X2 doesnt work in an 8700r. Hope that saves some of you some $$.
You will be able to switch in between SIMs back and forth freely without the need to power off. No need to activate on the BES everytime you switch back. Switching between 2 SIMs is just 2 clicks away. Fukkin sweet!!! Perfect for what I need it for.
