Default Screen Cracked

Please Login to Remove!

So I went out last night with some friends, and I wake up this morning and notice that my screen is cracked. It looks like someone smashed it with a screwdriver. The cracks all start from the same place and go out in various directions. These cracks make my trackball loose. I have no idea how this happened as I used my phone at different times last night and it was fine.

Obviously it took some force to break (and didn't just happen) but it must have occured when I had the phone in my pocket and didn't use it for the rest of the night. Has anyone else experienced a cracked screen? What can I do?

I know there are different sites around that offer replacement parts that you can install. Or you can see if it is still under warranty where a replacement can be sent to you.

I don't think warranty covers that type of physical damage just like it doesn't cover water damage, only manufacturing defects. Insurance should cover it, though.

In the future, get a holster or protective case!

Lesson learned on the protective case thing.

I also probably figure the warranty won't cover something like this. I guess I was hoping for responses from people who've had broken screens before and knew the process to go through. I hope I can just get a fix rather than buying an entirely new phone.

Thanks all!

Wow! This could be just what I need. My only worry would be damaging my phone further.

FYI, AT&T can only replace the entire phone for $350 and RIM charges $190 for repairs...and no loaner phone with a 2-week turnaround time.

Wow, it looks complicated.

but to replace the screen (front cover), its 4 screws, and separating the face from the side..

Should be a 5 minute job.. (wait, don't listen to me.. I replaced the shell on my 8700c before I sold it and didn't see the stupid little, tiny, miniscule microphone jammed into the case.. so I had to pay the buyer to get the phone fixed.. doah!)..
