So I bought my phone off ebay. It works amazinglly. But I get a sim card error Randomly during the day. Sometimes a few times a day. Sometimes none. It seems to happen more when I remove the sim password thingy. Its a new sim. I just got it
2 or 3 months ago.

If I just power down the phone and power it back up again. It works dime and reads it and stuff. Any ideas as to why

I just called my carrier (rogers) and they send me a new phone

Try taking your sim out and wiping down the contacts with a cloth. Sometimes oil from your hands can get on the sim and prevent it from being read properly.

Take an eraser from a #2 pencil and clean the contacts.

Sounds to me like the SIM is not properly seated or your "door" is not fully closed.

Take out the SIM, reseat it and make sure the door fully closes.

And like others said, make sure there is nothing on the contacts [card and the board] that may be causing a bad connection. But I don't think that is it, seems like a loose SIM.

By the way, rumor is that the Pearl 2 will have an "improved SIM slot," whatever that means. Perhaps RIM is acknowledging that the current slot is not that great to assure a good connection.

Thanks. It seems fine today so far.

I noticed after thinking about it, that it happens a lot after I drop it. Or hit it or something. Like sometimes it might fall off my nightstand or out of my pocket when I'm laying down or something. I think it is the loose sim. But I re did it so hopefully that was the problem

Dropping the phone or hitting it are significant details to have left out of your original post.

Same thing has happened to me, I have tried cleaning it, but it doesnt do a thing, i just ended up getting a new sim card. Sometimes it just ends up being a bad sim card. See if that works
