I'm kinda wondering if that is a good idea before seeing the 8300 for comparison and in view of some of the usage bugs I have seen.

I'm a typical consumer guy, and I just picked up my 8830 for the following

Full retail - 500ish
Early upgrade discount $100
Mail in rebate - $100

Total out the door - $424 (includes tax)
After mail in rebate - $324 (bascially 299 + tax)

I could have gotten another 100 bucks off if I waited til Nov 2007 for full "new every 2" discount, but hell, to save 100 buck but wait 6 mos? Forget it. I could rationalize the 299 price by basically saying to self "self, you got this nice toy for half off!" And my self agreed with me wholeheartedly.

$217.49 tax included, out the door. Then deduct the $100 mail-in rebate.

Total $117.49.

Yes, I signed a new two year contract.

To the OP:

I was just in the Sprint store the other day (Saturday) and the 8830 was going for $200 w/o mail-in-rebate. Will be going back in soon and will check to make sure it is still that price. The sign said until 6/17.

I had a verizon line with only voice on it (in addition to the line I had a moto Q on), that was eligible for a NE2 discount, so I got the 8830 for like $100 after the discounts and mail in rebates.

$399 - $100 NE2 - $100 for getting data plan - $100 mail-in = $99
(Important to note you can only get the $100 data discount if you are starting a NEW data plan, on a line that previously had no data. That is why I upgraded a line on which I had voice only)

Although I normally stick to 1yr contracts, its mainly so I can continue to upgrade my phones. I raised my voice plan so that I am eligible for a yearly phone upgrade even with a 2yr contract...

Default Soooooooooo.......

For the average guy going from a 7130 to an 8830, not yet there for new every two, but eligible to extend my contract two years, my BB price bottom line would be 299 plus tax. If I wait until new every two, it would be 199 plus tax. Correct?

Yes, but that would be after the mail-in rebate.
I think if you buy it online you may get the $100 instantly instead of having to mail it.

You can get the unlimited data plan discount on an existing data plan line. I bought my 8830 to replace my 9 month old Moto Q which had the unlimited data plan along with the broadband connect plan. Activated the 8830 on the same number the Q was on.

Forgot to mention in my previous post that I also got the $100 mail in rebate.
