Post Device Error 411

Please Login to Remove!

Good Morning,

I am curious if any of you have problems with "Device Error 411". We have all T-Mobile devices here and we continually get this error message on our devices. Usually, running the handheld software upgrade will resolve this issue, but as of late, it has not. This is extremely frustrating, and usually we have to end up replacing the handset, and if any of you have had to do that, you know it takes at least 20 minutes per device.

I have checked the RIM knowledge base, however, I still don't understand why this happens, and I've never really gotten a solid answer from RIM either. Over the past two weeks, we had at least 10 people getting this message on their devices...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have gotten this error with my Cingular 7290 this week. I received a warranty replacement unit from them due to a trackwheel issue, and the replacement unit gets the 411 error. The old unit did not.

411 error means that there is an issue with the radio/wireless application on the device. this application needs to be re-installed or in your case i would contact your SP to obtain a functioning device.

Actually, the 411 error is a corrupted OS on the handheld... You can use the app loader to rebuild the OS on the handheld, or you can use javaloader or whatever it's called to wipe the handheld and reload the OS... 10 minute fix either way...

cd.

My 7230 just started showing these symptoms today. It is currently rebooting itself atleast once every hour.
It still has the original O.S. and I am wondering if this might be a good opportunity to install O.S. 4.0 - any suggestions?

Go for it.
As an added bonus, Version 4 looks a lot nicer on the screen too.
You will find that unless you are also on a BES version 4 that it has a few features you can not use.
eg. Picture Viewer (not sure if Password Keeper requires BES ??)
You do not have to load them..

Note: If you plan to upgrade to version 4;
Uninstall your current 3.x Desktop Manager.
Download and install Desktop Manager version 4
Install the version 4 handheld software onto PC.
Open Desktop Manager and connect your device.
It will detect that there is updated software and prompt you to install it.

Enjoy.

The v4 handheld software installs onto the pc and appears in the Add/Remove Programs list? Once I've successfully done do I need to leave the s/w the pc? Thanks.

I had 4.0 loaded on my 7290 (Cingular) and was getting Device Error: 411. I downgraded back to 3.8 and then reloaded 4.0. I still have the same problem and my device still randomly and regularly reboots. HELP!!!

Well I loaded OS 4.0 and everything went perfectly. The random reboots have ceased. Response times are slower but overall the upgrade makes for a more useable device.

Device error 411 is a radio error, but it can be a hardware failure, as well as software. If reloading the OS doesn't fix the problem, the device probably needs to be replaced.

I was receiving all sorts of errors including 411 and random reboots.
I wiped my original 7290, reloaded the app, no go
I had the 7290 replaced with a refurb
A day later, it starts with the random reboots and 411 again,
This time I wiped it with Javaloader and struggled to get it back online (just being new at using Javaloader).
It was good for a few more hours and then it started with the errors again and the reboots.
NOW, the unit is giving me consistent 411 errors PLUS my battery has a "?"
This is frustrating. The only aftermarket software I have on this is Magmic Texas Holdem 2. I am going to ..sadly, remove it and see if that helps.

i am w/ a large agency. we have started seeing 411 w/ increased frequncy.
starts as 411 that prompts to reset. sometimes that works. progresses to frequent resboot / hourglass. eventually becomes battery drained shutting down handheld. shows red battery w/ a question mark to the left.

RIM said if only affected single, dual and tri-band devices. they said it was data transaction error between the handheld and the tower. cingular agreed. we have swapped sims, swapped devices, moved to different models--6710, 7780, 7290. we have deleted the exchange account. it still persists. typicall (so far anyway) it will affect just one person, others around dont seem affected.

they said that the cingular gsm/gprs network was having difficulty because it is pieced together from so many smaller networks--non-standard hardware, etc, etc.

i am perplexed. i am beginning to think that it is a virus. it seems to plague a particular user regardless. I have not yet found a fix. the most rim dart offers is to run the javaloader usb wipe and if that doesnt work change handhelds. done that still h ave the problem.

Bump cause I'm having the same problem too.

Latest version of OS4 on Rogers 7290. Been running fine for about 3-4 months now then just a week ago, it started. Once every so often wasn't too bad I thought. Last couple of days and today especially, it's happening about once every 20 minutes.

Reloaded OS 4 and try and do anything (turn on the backlight for example) and boom, resets again. Sometimes it does that when I enter my password to unlock the screen.

WTH? Do not have anything installed other than the standard OS4 software too.

Anyone think going back to OS 3.8 will help?

Thumbs down

Wow, why not just pop up a message box. I don't mind the sudden reboot, it is the time it takes to reboot (4 min)!

Ok, ok, I do mind the sudden reboots! Hell, to retype e-mails a million times is now getting to me.

RIM - Fix this please! (Sent into the void)
