Default 7100g, Bluetooth and hands free dialing

Please Login to Remove!

I've searched this forum as well as howardforums with no luck.
I have a Cingular/BB 7100g, and a Mot HS820 bluetooth headset. I have them paired and they work fine.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to get the 'hands free' part of the bluetooth to work. I can dial a number with my hands on the BB, and I can talk on the bluetooth headset in the call. I cannot get hands free dialing - where I say a name into the headset and it automatically dials the number.

Cingular has said I need a service called 'voice connect' - and there is an additonal charge for it (something like $3.99 or so a month). The only info I can find is at http://www.cingular.com/customer_service/voice_connect.

Am I able to do this? Bluetooth seems pretty useless without it. I've spoken with 9 (yes, nine) cingular/bb reps over the past few days - each gave me a different answer.

The only Cingular rep who knew what he is talking about said that BT on the 7100g is kinda useless b/c it doesn't enable voice-dialing. If so, I've basically got an $80 wireless headset, right?

Can someone provide a frustrated user with some help? Thanks in advance...

On my previosu ell phone, one could create and associate voice "tags" with address book entries. The BlackBerries do not have that capability. Here is a link to info on Cingular's Voice Connect:

well I think I answered my own question with more searching, plus help from the person who responded. No ability to voice dial (need voice tags) with BB.

So if I understand it, people with BB's buy bluetooth headsets just to get rid of the wire that connects a earpeice to the phone? Seems like an expensive feature - the $80 won't kill me, but I thought there was more to it. Oh well...

If you buy the Jabra BT800 you can see caller ID on the headset, and return phone calls from the headset call list without ever looking or touching your BB.
