Default Pearl color faded to black

Please Login to Remove!

We just got a few new 8100's and I noticed how bright white their trackballs are compared to older units. (They were without the battery inside just in case anyone was thinking the backlight was on.) Have others found the trackball to fade with time from white to dull black?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

More of a curiosity than a concern, as it doesn't affect functionality. Is this mostly with the Canadian made models, and first run models out of Mexico?

I think they just get dirty. They are white and it is used constantly. I've heard people say they clean theirs with rubbing alcohol.

It's dirt. They're white with a rough surface, of course they're going to get dirty.

There is a thread on changing the trackball color with a $5 program. I use it and have a nice blue trackball that is very bright.

And there's also a free way to change the color once the phone rings.

I was putting some Vaseline on and it was of course on my hands. So I get a text message and with the Vaseline on my fingers I used the ball. I noticed that my trackball was cleaner afterwards. So I guess Vaseline could be a possible cleaner as well.

But I just use clear tape and rubb it across the ball then take some Windex or face astringent normally.

Press the green phone button > menu > options > general options > ringtone lighting > switch to trackball.

Wont the vaseline reduce the friction between the trackball and the magnetic rollers. I know that if dirt gets between them the trackball stops working in one or more directions. I am thinking that vaseline will have a similar effect. Have you noticed this?

Yeah dude, don't use Vaseline.
"Canonbomb1987": How do you get your data to work with an unlocked 8100?
