I disagree. The carriers are the ones who have put these email to SMS gateways in place. Buy creating an easy to use method for users to email cellphones it stimulates additional SMS traffic from the recipient. I have many clients who use these gateways to send SMS messages to their employees through their desktops. If the remote worker replies that's SMS traffic on our network and money in our pockets. It would be counterintuitive for carriers to create the gateway but not assist their customers with its use.
Mark - I will follow this up, thanks for help. Maybe a silly question ...I send to say my nephew who has an orange mobile ....he needs a user name ...how does he get that, or why would he (apart from benefiting me).
I'll check with vodafone in interim to see if helpful.
Ok my friend uses MTS Primtel. It just says "Enter your phone number. Sent via web gateway." I don't understand. How do I send her a message through email? Is there even a way?
I have an 8100 - is there any way to store the teleflip address so that you can text without typing out the address each time? I wanted to keep the contacts regular email addresses also stored and cant figure out a way to store 2 email addresses?
make a second contact for the person such as Bob email and Bob cell
I did this a few days ago, sent an email to - they received it but it was all gibberish. I saw it on their phone. No idea why. So I'm afraid to try again lol.
You can also use this site to see what carrier issued the phone number you want to create an email address for. Maybe the OP can edit his original post...
In certain countries, a cellphone number can identify which carrier they use... in india and sri lanka i know for example, from a cellphone number which carrier is servicing this number, cause the first 3 digits determines this... so it is pretty easy. don't know about other countries, sorry. Maybe it works like this in other places as well, except in the U.S where number portability has basically denied this...

Its simple just edit the contact and press the menu key then select add a new address. I beleive 3 would be the max.
I personally use teleflip.com. its easy to remember and you can use it with all carriers. I'VE BEEN USING IT FOR YEARS!!!
