Leave the unit turned on over night and check for a puddle of shimmering liquid in the morning.

I would think the best way is to check and note the memory right after a cold (battery removed) boot.

Then use the device as you would normally and open and close as many of the applications as you need. Close all of these applications and check the memory again.

The difference is lost memory not recovered when programs are closed. Likely due to some poorly written code.

I started a thread about this over here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...mory-leak.html before greg posted this one. Maybe a mod could merge them??? I don't have an 8800 yet but I hope there is no memory leak.

I think there is. I started with 19 something and it is down to 15 something. I am pretty sure all my apps are closed. On the 8700 it was alt and side key, how can you check on the 8800? Anybody else getting this?

You can't tell memory leak this way. As in all Java applications, memory is only freed when there is garbage collection.

What you're seeing is the onboard memory. In Options/Advanced Options/Media Card you can view how much free space is left on your MicroSD Card.
