I downloaded your zip files (both Quick Note and Compose Email), unzipped them and put them in my desktop manager and added them as icons/software to my Blackberry 7250. Like someone earlier said that when Compose Email comes up, SMS pops up, not regular Email. Is that a bug or what? Thanks

Composer by both SRS and Mark pops up in SMS mode, not the e-mail mode.

Compose goes into SMS mode on some devices and Email mode on other devices. It probably has something to do with service books (order of entries, possibly).

In the last 6 months I haven't looked at the source code to see if it is possible to override this behaviour. A developer here can also look at the source code, since these are free utilities that I've released the source code for.

Exclamation QuickCompose does NOT work on Sprint 8703e

Mark:

I loved Quick Compose on my 7520. I just recently upgraded to a Sprint 8703e from Sprint and I have installed and deleted it various ways to no avail. What I am getting is only the option to compose an SMS. I have tried both the .jad and the .alx

Please help as its an app I can't live without.

Thanks, Ken

Important note: To enable hotkeys, turn off "Dial From Home Screen" setting in Phone->Options. (You can press the phone hotkey before dialing, anyway). Hotkeys do not work on 71XX series, so you have to manually launch via icon. However, hotkeys works from PocketDay as an assigned key if you need hotkeys on the 71XX series.

MarkyBerryUtils Wireless Download:

Download Quick Note Via BlackBerry:
www.marky.com/files/bb/QuickNote.jad

PURPOSE: One hotkey access ("Q" key) to immediately jotting down notes that is automatically copied to the clipboard. Requires BlackBerryOS 3.6 or later. Configurable font sizes and optional clipboard display on startup. Written completely from scratch.

Download Quick Compose Via BlackBerry:
www.marky.com/files/bb/QuickCompose.jad
PURPOSE: One hotkey access ("C" key) to immediately composing a blank new email message. Requires BlackBerryOS 4.1 or later. This readds the missing Compose icon from earlier BlackBerryOS software, while using the new convenient New Email interface of OS 4.1. Thanks to Ramble at SRA for the first version of the code.

All .jad files are always OTA.

So the answer is yes. Whenever you see something ending in ".jad" it automatically means "OTA".

Thanks. Did the ota install of version 1.1, disabled the dial from home screen, as instructed.

But when I press the "q" key it ask, "do I want to assign a speed dial"?

I'm on the sprint 8703e. Can seem to figure what I'm doing wrong.

Thoughts?

It's possible the 8703e changed something.

If the 8703e uses an "Applciations" screen separate from the main screen, go there before pressing the Q key. Make sure you press the Q key briefly, not long enough for the speed dial notification.

I've been using QuickNote for a few weeks now. I love the easy access to a note pad.

A couple of questions:

1. What does the "Paste The Clipboard on Startup Option" mean? I've read your reply to Stinsondog above and I still don't get it. Is this just another way of saying "Don't Delete The QuickNote Contents" Option?

2. If the above is true, I've still noticed I'll lose the contents. I always have the Paste The Clipboard on Startup enabled. I use QuickNote to jot quickie reminders down. (Ex: I'm headed to Home Depot and want to remember the dimensions of my window or something). So they are not always important notes, but usually urgent. QuickNote is fast, but I can't always rely on it to save what I want it to.

3. Is it related to how I close QuickNote? Using ESC or hitting the HOME (Red hang up phone) button? (A 8700G user)

I really want (or have the option) to keep the QuickNote pad contents until I choose to delete it. (Auto saving as a Memo would be another feature, but I saw your note above on that technical issue.)

I hope my questions don't sound ridiculous, but I need help.

Thanks!

I can confirm that for some handhelds the behaviour of invoking the SMS application seems to be the default.

I have a 8703e, and I've been playing with the same code fragments inside of BBToday. On both the actual and the 8703e simulator the MessageArguments.ARG_NEW form of Invoke takes me to the SMS screen, not the e-mail compose screen. Other Handheld simulators (e.g. a 7520) take me to the e-mail compose screen. Humph.

This is with handeld OS 4.1.0.344

The quick compose utility looks snazzy, but I can't for the life of me find where to disable 'call from home screen' on my Pearl (OS xx.71/Vodafone Today theme). I know where the option was on my 8700g, and I know where it *should* be on the Pearl, but I can't seem to find anywhere to change the default setting.

O'kay, here is what I did to get it to work again (I had the same problem).

Uninstall QuickNote
Hide the Enterprise Messenger icon on your homescreen
Re-install/download QuickNote
Keep the QuickNote icon visible

Do not worry about accessing Enterprise Messenger, as it appears in the drop-down menu in the Message List.

Not 100% sure because I do not have a Pearl, but keyboard shortcuts do not work because it is not a QWERTY keyboard. All SureType keyboards do not allow shortcuts. I may be wrong here, unless something changed in 4.2 to allow this on the SureType keyboards.

Default 8100 No ability to click Q

Mark
I looked through the thread and maybe Iam missing something here. Can I use this on an 8100? Whenever I hit Q I get the call log. I have no option to turn off the dial from home screen.
I am using a today plus theme and cannot quick compose from the list or the application page.

I am running 4.2.x.

Any thoughts.
