I know for Cingular you need to be with them for a certain amt of time before they will tell you the unlock code. Atleast past the 15 day return policy period.

I'm majorly curious: Where exactly do these unlocking services get their 'secret' info that allows them to charge so much for it?

By the way, how do you tell if a phone is unlocked? Is the Sim Card menu, SIM Card Security Disabled a sure sign of being unlocked?

To the OPer - if your sis has been with TMobile for over 90 days they will unlock her phone. I am a Tmobile customer for like 3 years now and I recently needed my BB 7100T unlocked for Europe. While I was on the phone with them, I asked if they would assist me with unlocking my Pearl and they did both. They were very courteous on the phone. I love TMobile customer care.

As has been said already but not too detailed. You could have put your sisters T-mobile SIM in your phone, she call and ask for the unlock code since she 'might' be traveling internationally. They would send it to her without problem as long as she was in good standing with them and had been a customer for at least 90 days.

I recently bought a BB Pearl from Cingular. I called them about 2 weeks ago to get the unlock code for it, and got nothing. So I called them today to follow up on it, the CS rep shot off a 15 digit number that later turned out to be my imei number. I called them again to see wtf what going on with the 16 digit unlock code, and they told me that i need to put in a diffrent providers sim card in to unlock my Pearl. Is this true, or can i just put the "Network MEP" code in to unlock it with the Cingular SIM card in? I would ask Cingular but I dont think they have any idea whats goin on.

I got my 8100c unlocked in 2 hrs for $29 from gsmphonesource.com/reunbyimforc6.html

Cingular gave me the wrong code. I got the code after 3 days and the phone did not accept it. The code i got from the above website was different and it worked. It was well worth th $29. I feel like wirting cing a letter and asking them to reimburse my account for their incomp.

I believe I unlocked my TMO Pearl by following the instructions that TMO sent me. Is there any way to verify this.

I am in the military and have only been with TMO for about 60+ days. But, I called and told them I have to go to Europe and wanted to take my BB 8100 with me. She waived the 90 waiting period and I got the code this morning. Unlocked it and everything is working great!

First time I have called T-Mobile customer service, but they did a good job in my book.

AVOID cellularclinic.com or gearfortech.com (same company). They are quite slow at processing an order, and I just received a VERY POOR email from a senior representative basically implying that I am trying to scam them when I haven't even received my unlock code YET I already paid them.

I finally got my phone unlocked. I called Cingular for the unlock code and they emailed it to me within 2 weeks. The best part is it was free, and i have only been a cingular customer for about a month and a half now.
