Default BB8100 Extended Memory Capacity

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I am considering getting a MicroSD card for my new 8100/Pearl. However, there seems to be some concerns about what is the max extended memory capacity of Pearl that it can handle (not mentioned in any where I can find, not even BB's site). I saw someone complained about that it can only format his card to 1GB even it is a 2GB card. Any advice?

Thank you!

Actually it's quite simple. OS version .42 can only handle 1 GB cards. All other versions can handle 2 GB cards.

as long as you have 4.2.0.69 OS version on your Pearl you can handle a 2GB micro SD card....and if its a Cingular Pearl that is the version it came with out of the box.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

So does the tmobile 4.2.0.46 allow 2gb cards? Mine had .42 and I just upgraded to the latest from tmobiles site.
Just wondering.

Never heard of .46, you must be asking about .64, and yes, it handles 2 GB cards as I stated before.

*Any* version newer than the original 4.2.0.42 can handle 2GB microSD cards. Not just the "Cingular" version.

I am using the 8100 from TMO and I have updated my software to the new OS for the 2gb micro sd card. however, ever since I was not able to get the 1gb card to work when I inster it into my Pearl. It gives me a blank white screen and doesn't do anything. Any ideas? Is the new OS update bakwards compatible. Any assistance would be much apprciated.

^^^Just re-format the 1gb card and it should be good. Make sure to transfer your files to pc or the data will be wiped out.
I have tmob .64 and use the 1gb and 2gb cards without any issues.

This sounds like what happens when you put a 2GB card in with .42. Are you sure you OS upgrade took? Check in Option>About to see if you really have the new OS. If you do, try re-installing the card.
