Default US based company e-mail; UK based cell phone service-will it work?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I apologize in advance because I am such a noob at this. I am trying to set up a US employee who is going to be based out of the UK for a year and half. My question is, would it be possible for her to connect with our e-mail BlackBerry server in the US if she has local UK cell phone service (any recommendations?).

Thanks in advance!

I'm not the BSE server admin; just someone setting up this new employee, are there any additional steps that I should make sure to do in order to make the addition of this new user is relatively painless? Would Vodafone be the GSM equivalent in the UK?

when the user gets his BB just make sure it is allocated for BES use by the provider.

Then just have the BES admin send the registration email to the user and the user can then activate the BB with the BES.

We have 4 BES servers across 4 continents (US, UK and Australia). We have a smattering of UK users on our BES server due to the location of their Exchange server (always put the BES account close to the exchange). Vodaphone is our UK cellular provider (we have over 400 users there) and they have no problems. The one caviat is that Vodaphone does not have near the number of global roaming parnters that Cingular in the US has. So if this user will be doing any traveling outside of the UK, make sure to check and make sure that Vodaphone can support it.

Hi Wowie

It works fine we have a large number of customers doing cross border BES's including one customer who has devices in Russia running froim a London BES and other customers with an Italian BES running users in London.

I work for a Vodafone / O2 Service Provider ("Reseller") here in the UK, and would be happy to quote you on the hardware and monthly subscription. We're flexible enought to be able to deal with billing a US based corporation, which might freak out the networks if you contact them directly. Drop me a PM and we can follow up off list..

If your user is going to be roaming into Europe on a monthly basis then I'd recommend you put them on O2 as they offer a flat rate monthly roaming data plan which is not available on Vodafone, and this can save lots. Plus O2 offers better support than VF (IMHO)
