Some people have no sense of direction. But another added benefit is if you are used to going one way, and there is a major accident on that route, you can have the GPS help guide you around it.

Has anyone tried to email a map location you pulled out of your address book. I did that and it emailed a link that didn't do anything. Any ideas? Pretend it has the h t t p : / / in front of the folloowing link. It won't let me since I haven't posted 10 items yet.

maps.BlackBerry.com?lat=39.62431&lon=-84.23725&z=2

It looks like it went to bb's website and gave a Lat & Lon value but the website didn't show anything besides a splashscreen.

Anybody succeeded doing this on Bell yet? I have not yet been able to obtain a GPS lock (i.e. "Unable to acquire GPS lock" error message)

Anyone figure out howto unlock the GPS built into the VZW 8703e so that you can use the GPS functionality in BB Maps?

Default Hmm...

I recently installed BB Maps...
But for some reason when I choose an address from my contact list, it does not find some of them. I live in Miami, FL. I don't know why this is happening.

Even out of curiosity I entered my job's address which has been in business for about 25 years...and still did not find it. Am I doing something wrong?

BTW...I don't have a GPS puck yet....

The version I have is 4.4.0.20 for telenav
Running on a Sprint 8703e with v4.1.0.359 software

BTW the Blaqckberry maps does not have (I have not found it yet at least) the very cool Telenav function of giving you directions from where you are currently using the GPS. All I see with BB maps is that if you put in a location and want directions you have to type in your starting point as an address (not something I always have since I'm out in the field alot) I use Telenav mostly for that reason. Not having a street address all the time and just being able to start my directions from current location is a big part of the GPS for me. I'm going to play around with BB maps some more to see if it does support that function.

Side note. Tried saving my work address as a favorite in BB maps and got a "uncaught exception error" that dropped out of BB maps back to the main screen.

I think it does have that. You want to find the menu item to "Use Map Center" to get directions from where you are. I edited my page to reflect that.

I have an 8700g and bought the Holux 236Slim for $79 at Amazon.com a few days ago. The 236 will last 14-18 hours on a charge and even works inside my house. It's small, lightweight, and worth the $$.

It is very easy to setup. Just turn on your BB's BT, put it in Discovery mode, and wait for it to detect.

After that initial setup, turn off the discovery mode. When you turn on BT, it will detect within a few seconds. Then you can use BB maps.

I am currently using an iPAQ 6915 and I am considering downgrading to a simple Blackberry so I won't have to be so protective of it. I do LOVE the internal GPS on the iPAQ though and was wondering whether the GPS on the Blackberry is as good as this one. Also, is the 8703 the only Blackberry that has GPS? Is the GPS a real GPS receiver or does it rely on the cellular network? In other words, would it work if the phone is off and/or there is no reception?

I definitely have other questions about BB but they go in other places here...

Thanks!
